Google says that's for a GSX400... in other words the 8 valve GS400 for you US folk

As for tuning an aftermarket ignition, well there's very little of that involved with the Dynatek, it's pretty straight forward...

is the dyna alot more reliable then the stock ignition? I have new controls for the right and left handle bars so I actually have most everything working on the bike now except for the front brakes and the ignition.

Maybe this is a stupid question.... but how does the dyna replace the stock ignitor box?

All the Dynatek DS3-x models are exactly the same electronically, they just have different mounting plates... although the DS3-3C kit comes with coils as well (but no spark plug leads).

As long as it's safe to use your coils with the Dynatek ignition, you could buy any of the three DS3 models and mount them on your stock signal generator plate.

If you do this, buy some heatsink compound and smear some between the bottom of the module and the plate.

The Dynatek is self contained under the timing cover, so the harness goes straight from there to your coils. There is no longer a separate ignitor unit. That's another reason I like it...

Most people find them reliable... I had one module on my first one die but I'm pretty sure that's quite unusual.

If you have any questions about installing the Dynatek let me know. I had my ignitor burn up on my 300 (same engine as your 250) and I replaced it with the Dynatek. It's actually pretty easy, and the guys at Dynatek are great with service and knowledge. Take a look at my thread and it should have most of what I did to swap it out.

Pete and Mechanix might have been just a bit of help too. :P

I'm currenty rebuilding my 300 so I could take some more pictures if you have any questions.

                  This ^^

All non-CDI ignitions function by passing current through the coils and allowing a magnetic field to build, then pulling the ground at just the right time. When the ground is pulled that magnetic field collapses and induces current in the coil secondary, firing the plug.

Points models did this with, well, points. The points would open and the associated coil with those points would fire. On MA EI systems like on your bike, there's a rotor, and the sig gen that picks up the disturbance caused by the rotor rolling by. The igniter picks up on that and pulls the ground to the coils. The Dyna S basically does just this, only the whole deal is done on those little black modules under the ignition cover, which is why it just looks like a sig gen but it's really the whole thing in one unit and goes directly to your coils. This causes some confusion at times since it looks a whole lot like just a sig gen. The Dyna S was really meant to replace points on bikes that never had an igniter to begin with.

Later models used electronic advance instead of mechanical advance. The igniter circuitry is much more complicated, but it allowed for a wider range and more precisely controlled degree of advance for the ignition.

Wow that really makes sense now. Ill admit I was a bit confused at first. So I guess replacing the ignitor might just clean up the wiring a bit more as well. I can do most anything with a car but admittedly have almost no knowledge of motorcycles. I had the idea pete that maybe I could just buy the modules from one of the other dyna3 kits and skip buying the coils but I am not so sure that it would be compatible. It would save a lot of money but meh I dont know I will talk with dynatek some more and see. THank you all for all the explanation and help. Getting closer to having it on the road with every step haha.

this is what i received from tech support

                        Hello William.
Quite simply, because the OEM coils primary ohm rating is not compatable with
                        the Dyna-S pick up modules.
                        Thank you,

I bought the dsc-3c with coils. The module will burn up the stock ones pretty fast. I think I got the whole lot on fleabay for 300 with shipping. It's definitely worth the investment if you plan on keeping the bike. Plus you can ditch about 10 feet of wire from you harness which cleans it up and makes it tighter. I took out all connections between the old igniter and coils and everything between the old sig gen and igniter.

ok that clears up a lot. That sucks that it will burn up the coils. THe ones on the bike now are brand new. sigh. lol. Can you take some pics of your setup and email them to me at csxt511@yahoo.com? I would really appreciate it.

Jake's got a bunch of pic's in his build thread as do I, but here's my Photobucket album with them in it:

                              http://s594.photobucket.com/user/sta...?sort=3&page=1

I also did up some installation instructions for the 450 that complement the Dynatek installation instructions which I will email to you now.

One thing you probably should do before purchasing is shoot up some photos of your signal generator, particularly of the plate itself. That's the bit that I've never seen from a 250 so it would be good to know the Dynatek can replace it easily first.
