Just about ready disconnect the shaft, and drop the motor.... the strip down (so far) was fairly simple (lots of fun actually!) not looking forward to cramming all that wiring back into the headlight casing, the harness looks like it needs a heap of thought going into it

Welcome to the forum Paul and congratulations on your project. I recently restored a 83 GS1100G and now I bought a 82 GS1100GL basket case. These old bikes are so much fun to restore, but don't get frustrated over bumps in the road as you go along this journey. I don't know if I have electrical issues or not with my GL since my wiring harness is still laying on the floor! ha ha Good luck with your project and don't hesitate to ask for help. Everybody on this forum is more than willing to answer questions and offer advice. Keep us posted with pics on your progress.

Paint and lacquer is on!! It just needs polishing now, which I'm told will all be done tomorrow. Its a kingfisher Blue with a slight perl tint, the rest will be new the gold emblems, black powder coat frame, satin black calipers, and gold wheel insets (where the black is now) just not 100% on the wheels, but if it doesnt work for this colour I can always go back to black..... but thats it now till the 16th of May as I have a load of college work to finish

Thanks! yesterday started out like any other, till I browsed ebay, and one email and 2 clicks later, I was $1000 lighter. I now own this too, dont pick it up for 2 weeks though, so not sure what knock on effect it will have... all good fun though !!!

So are you on the look out for a new project then? In the UK we see so many of the US car (and bike) rebuild television programms here. It seems there are heaps of classic rebuilds in the rural areas.

The only thing separating me from another project is time and money. LOL

I would love to get my hands on another bike to rebuild, but that probably won't be for a little while. I know of one sitting in a barn right now!

After getting all of my toys running I am committed to helping the Mrs. get some things done on the house while at the same time going back to school. I will probably be putting most of "spare" time into reading and writing for a bit. In the mean time I will enjoy riding my bike and taking the kids fishing (just got my boat running again) as tension relief from work and school. Until I finish that I will most likely live vicariously through build threads like yours!
