    Gs750 T..etnis shot

Kudos to you for taking on this project. That's a lot of rust for sure. The original frame looked like it was used as a boat anchor.

Can't wait to see what it looks like when you're finished. I love that you are resurrecting this bike.

And yes, go with the SS bolts, but use plenty of anti seize!

I finished up the plumbing repair in my kitchen so I can focus on the bike now. I don't think my water was hot enough when I dipped my carbs with the Pinsol. But they are way cleaner now. I went ahead and ordered the o rings and bolts from cycleorings.com today so that will be my main focus right now. Dipping them hopefully will help getting the screws out easier, but I've got my impact driver and needle nose vise grips just in case. I plan on dipping them again when I get everything separated and laid out in front of me so I can get to all the nooks and crannies.

          Rear wheel

The wife wanted to watch her reality tv tonight so I got a little bit more done on the bike tonight.

I finally got the drum brake hub off but not before breaking inner pieces of it off. So now I need a new one of those. But now I am contemplating just going the rear disc brake set up. The frame was meant for it since its an '80' and I have seen all the parts on eBay for decent prices. I threw the rear wheel back on the swing arm just to see how it looks. I already have a new to me rear axle and spacers so I just went for it. I still haven't gotten the rear sprocket broken loose so I don't know what to do there. Vinegar bath maybe? Heat? Probably both. I will also end up getting some better axle adjusters because mine look horrible.

Little things keep getting done so I feel like I am making progress. Tetanus Shot will rise from the rust like a pheonix!

I still haven't gotten much done on the bike this week. I got my o rings and ss bolts for the carbs a couple of days ago. Can the same bolts be used on the float bowls? If so I need to order 8more of them. I also need to order new float bowl gaskets as well.

Did you try turning the engine over before you bought it? With that much rust I would imagine it was in a lot of salt water for some time.

Yup, same bolts top and bottom.

No, I didn't. It wasn't in salt water, but it might have been in a flood. I bought it off a guy who had it parked between his garage and fence for quite some time. I won't find out until I rebuild the motor. I am going to replace every gasket, and o-ring. I also plan on replacing the clutch plates and springs. And check the valves of course. The cases don't look as bad in person as they do in some of the pics.

Thanks Tank. I thought that I read that in another post, but wasn't sure. I'll get those ordered on Friday along with new float bowl gaskets, and then I should be set for a full carb rebuild.

What an outrageous / courageous project. It is the sharing of this kind of project that is so fun to watch and cheer on. A true shade tree, kitchen sink project. Is the worst that you have started with? Your project alone is enough entertainment value to warrant $ support of this site.

Keep up the work on old tetanus shot and thanks for the photos and the Q and A of the collective brains.

This is my first attempt at a rebuild. Since I don't have a lot of money to throw at it all at once it will probably take a bit of time. But I want to make it as sound as possible so I don't mind going slowly.

That is very fitting though, a GS750Tetanus shot, lol.

You got the right frame of mind. I have left my second "T" in the shed at the moment...only taken her fuel petcock to replace the fuel leak I had a couple weeks ago.

When my situation gets better, I will start to disassemble my 2nd "T". Until then, she is waiting for me tucked in my garden shed.

While my son is taking a nap I decided I would dig into the carbs a little bit.

                              The #1 & 4 carbs have 107.5 jets and the #2 & 3 carbs have 115 jets. Shouldn't stock GS850 carbs (that's what I bought, 1981) be jetted to 115 in all 4?

And I had a brain fart and only ordered 8 bolts instead of 32. So I'll need another 24 bolts to order on Friday along with new float bowl gaskets. On a bright note only 2 of the screws wouldn't come out with a screwdriver. Need to dig out my needlenose vice grips now.

8 bolts is correct if its for your intake boots....I see you got the kit from cycleorings, and those would be only bolts he sells with his kit...
