My name is Chase, and I'm just posting some progress on the bike. My father gave me his 81' GS1000G. Unfortunately it has been sitting for over 15 years. I'm not doing a *complete* strip, just cleaning up. (I just needed a basic commuter since I'm putting a ton of mileage on my car) I sold my GSXR600 last year and needed a bike to ride.
So far:
* Fixed leaky petcock
* Cleaned tank and all the rust
* Cleaned Carbs (two floats were stuck with a metric ton of gunk build up)
* Removed Fairing and Bags
* Removed exhaust for welding holes
TODO:
* MIG exhaust holes and paint with header paint
* Source out a front light
* Replace brake pads
* Check valve clearance
* Replace spark plugs / oil filter
* Figure out what to do about airbox (non-existant air filter, intake boots and gasket)
* Clean up wiring
* Change tires
* Brake Reservoir seems to be disintegrated
* Paint Tank, Frame, etc
I'm probably missing a few things, just going off the top of my head. I'm still researching the whole airbox situation. Replacing the air filter and stripping is about $60 bucks, or going to pods with new jets is about $140. Any suggestions would be very welcome.
