don't use the red coat it will come out , this new gas eats it, had my tank done at a show they uses red coat , after it had 4 or 5 months to dry, I was rebuilding the motor gs1000, when a started bike for first time , had a carb leak , gas was bright red , and you could see in tank where it was coming off , I use kbs coating from JEGS High Performance , you can find on ebay #111059712049 I have done 3 tanks no leaks ,

have you cleaned out tank yet , you can do it with vinegar and salt, let soak 24 hr , wash out with baking soda ,dry with air and coat soon ,

Carbs are almost done. Petcock rebuilt. Gas tank almost ready. Salvaged most all the original parts. Fuel level sender is hopeless.
Is it just me or does it also make your heart rate rise a bit when those four butterflies crack open......

Well see how it runs with the ZX9
Carbs are done. Trying to get the valve cover off to dump some oil onto the cams. Wont budge.
Once i get them oiled i can try to fire it. Pray it has spark.
I picked up a 4-1 header at the local cycle yard. Ill clean it up and heat wrap it. Just need a nice muffler now....Oh and the fairing!
I cant believe how clean it is under that dust.....I'm loving this bike more and more.

looks good, just make sure you got all the bolts out. I would probably pull all the plugs and crank it for a while. Good idea on the cams as well.
If you are going to run it for any amount of time you need to put something on the intake. If it is pods you should rejet using the DJ kit. 3133 using 132's and 47.5 on the pilot jets.

It did fire up. Like you said needs filters. I ordered a set of red UNI filters. Is the DJ needle necessary? I may just buy the jets instead.
May not keep up with the ZX, but it will sure as hell out-comfort it....

1. Having now been thru it with the charging system, believe everything folks here tell you. I followed the stator & RR paper directions after mine fried (probably wouldn't have if I'd been proactive) and now charging system <knock on wood> is working great. I don't even keep it on the trickle charger anymore!
2. Your case guards are trick! Mine has the same ones I put on my first one (new off the showroom floor).
3. You can still pick up GS550ES fairing lowers from dealers online, but you'll need to take a dremel to the inner edge against the valve covers and give it some curve for clearance. Other than that they work great. Mine came with a set of Lockhart lowers but I've taken them off for now.

You know what they say about Hoping/Wishing............. Wish in one hand and $hit in the other and see which fills first.
Follow GS Charging Health and you will dramatically improve your chances. Get a SERIES R/R (e.g. Compufire) and you will have the best chance with probably no more charging issues. Generally I would recommend a SH-775 (for cost) but for a ED/ESD the Compufire is the way to go. Pricy but it will save your stator and will fit in the stock position with a little persuasion. (see my thread)
