    1978 gs 1000 complete overhaul

as you all know i blew up my gs some time ago trying to take is at highway speed for a while 85+ so i got it home on a blown piston ring
i am in the airforce and live on base so i do not have a good place to rebuild this thing or store it until i get leave

right now it is doing what metal does best

does anyone have any ideas as to how i can get this thing going
it needs a complete rebuild pistons rods cylinder walls heads exhaust the works
PROBABLY carbs now good mikunis too

does anyone have any good ideas anything will help
i did the worst thing to it( took it to a mechanic shop) he took it appart
said he couldent fix it so he left it in peaces now it is out back in a box and stuff

its a basket case of basket cases
id like to return it to the condition it was in right before it broked

I agree, I'd be shopping for another engine.
Might take you awhile to find one though.

Depending on where you are located, I would get it over to Chuck Haun in Norman OKlahoma. I think he could use a few bucks these days and has the time to get it done right.

I got the time for sure. Working on a 79 right now just to get it running and see IF the engine even is good.

Where are you located? Would be a slam dunk if you were at Tinker!!!

What shape are the cylinder walls in? Scared up? Burnt looking? May need resleeved. Which I can do easily enough if good or new ones can be had. You can PM me if you wish.

Realistically though, a used engine would be cheaper. But then again, whats gonne need done to it too? Sort of a catch 22 if you buy another and its blown in a month also.

Why wont the hobby shop let you work on it there? The one here at Wright-Patt was going to let me store and work on the engine before my friend let me use his garage
