    I'm rebuilding a GS550E 1981.

    pics say more than word;

This is how i bought it 6 months ago.

New handlebar and change the cockpit.

    New chain and sprockets.

Bought a fibreglass seat, alot of fitting to do...

Cutting the frame. the easy part.

Made the seat a little bit longer.

And this is what it looks like for now. not done yet.

That looks great, especially the tail.

What other plans do you have for it?

Do you want to sell the old seat?

Next thing to do is reinstalling the battery under the seat, and installing pod filters.

And the old seat is for sale, but im not shipping him overseas.

Maybe ship it to a friend in Germany?
          Or is that considered overseas?

Nice bike and good work. I see you are carrying on the age old tradition of Dutch craftsmanship.

One thing I would like to make you aware of regarding the seat. Those are so rigid that without adequate padding (and I don't think you have enough) you can damage your spine or the sciatic nerve bundles in your bum. It happened to me.

I apparently squished the sciatic nerve in my left leg and it is an excrutiating pain that is only relieved by opiate drugs. I could not ride for over a year and could barely sit comfortably in a chair or walk without a cane. It also, in my case, caused long lasting nerve and sensory damage in the leg that still troubles me almost 7 years on.

Enjoy the bike but be careful, do yourself a favour and add some more padding.

Will you hold onto it for me? Next time I'm in Amsterdam I'll come get it.
