    GS1100 into GS850GN A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS...

Hello people I hope somebody on here can help me out, I have a 1979 GS850GN that is weeping from the base and head, the other day I bought a Gs1100G lump that I want to put in it,as i have no info about the 1100 apart from the engine number (U701-105237) Can anybody give me the year?
Also on a thread on here somewhere, I read that I will have to use an 1100 swinging arm and shaft etc, So here are my questions ...are the 1100 and 850 wheel interchangeable... i know they differ by an inch in size, I mean the diff, will one fit the other?or do i need an 1100 wheel... ? can i get away with using the 850 swinging arm and an 1100 shaft and diff ? Ideally the minimum pay out is what I am looking for... somebody out there has done this i am sure, so are there any other problems that I should be concerned with. thanks in advance. Simon
P.S. looking for silencers for the 1100 too,
P.P.S I have the carbs and the air box for the 1100 so that is not a problem.Ta

I am under the impression that the only thing that you HAVE to change is the driveshaft. The swing arm does not have to change.

I don't have year info for the engine, but if it's black, it's an '83 or newer. If it's black, grab the final drive off the 1100 swingarm, it has a different ratio.

Wheels are directly interchangeable, the inch does not matter, but the '79 850 had 17-inch wheels, so did the 1100G, regardless of year. Now, if it was an 1100GL or an 1100GK, it would have a 16-inch wheel. No matter, they all fit.

Simon, I think I was saw that on ebay last week, if the seller was Lovekittykat2009, I can't say for sure, but it looks like an 82.

          thankyou

thanks Paul, yea that was the one, I have been polishing for a few days,it now looks great and I captured an 83 swinging arm, all i need now is an exhaust system, I have the down pipes, they are bigger than my 850 ...anybody know what systems are interchangeable, I presume a gs thou will fit what about any of the gsxs' any Ideas would be appreciciated.

You also need to modify the motor mounts . I believe the left rear mount ? The drive shaft needs to be replace because the bolt spacing is different

              I have fitted a Motad 10s (gs1000) and GS11xx which I'm guessing the PO took off a GSX1100ET or a GS1100E

I wonder if a 1000G airbox might not work better. The 1100 had a different frame. I'm pretty certain that 1000G exhaust will fit. One of my 1000G has a 1100G motor, but I bought it that way.
