Ok. But is it true that tappy valves degrade overall engine performance due to opening late and closing early as well as not opening enough? I know that 0.02mm above specs isn't much. It's just me trying to be a perfectionist

I certainly wouldn't add any loose pieces of metal inside my engine.

It would help if you spelled that last word correctly, given its context.

Yup that's my 450. I posted its pictures to answer the person who accused me of being a troll.

Thanks HJ for pointing that out as I started to help him look for some parts in one of his other threads but didn't see the 500 in the parts fiche.

As I had opened both engines side by side on my 450 and friend's 500, I noticed that both top ends are HIGHLY similar and cams are almost identical. This thread is for my friend's GS500 however. My 450 is running fine now

Hello Safwan, Welcome to the group. Your bike is a nice looker, don't remember ever seeing one like it myself. Don't worry about your valve settings costing performance or causing any damage. I would consider them to be about optimal for a GS. They will slowly but surely tighten over the miles, but you will most likely not have to adjust them for quite a while or worry about burning them. Hope you enjoy the time on GSR. Ray

Sorry that wasn't exactly aimed at you. I don't take exception to anything you've typed and have to convictions as to your identity. The engine thing is a long running subtext around here and I jokingly proffered it to Bob as an ID test for a certain person known to troll the premises in disguise.
