    SKUNK II project... begins

I just picked up my second skunk and plan of fixing her up. I suppose it is crazy for a guy to have two but after I have fun fixing it up I may sell one or the other later.

The turn signals are loose and rack is off because when the PO transported it from California he had to remove to fit in the trailer.

Here is a picture with rack on that owner sent me:

It looks to have been gently laid on its side because the stator cover is scuffed through and there is some oil present... which I assume means I will have to get in there and replace a seal or something.

Ok heading out to get title transferred.

Of course we will demand more and better pics.

When you say, "Skunk," we say, "Pics."

Ok I will try to get more pics loaded in my album and will post new as the project evolves. Of course will be doing valve adjustment, carbs, master cylinder etc.

That thumbnail will get big if you click on it.

Nothing crazy about owning 2 Skunks.
They will keep each other in line.
          Are those the correct pipes?

Yes they are correct and the megaphone part of them are bot excellent. pitting on the front parts. That make three sets of the "ugly" stock pipes I now have.

            One set rusty
            One set dingy
            and this set

Of course, but a full page layout of 8-10 pics is just sooo much better

                It's still rather small.

                800x600 is a decent minimum.

Click on any of the links in my sig, you will see what 800x600 looks like.

Are you using Photobucket? Or some other web hosting site?

No I only use this site for my gs related pics. If they need to charge for extra ram or gigs or whatever I would gladly pay it.

I have some pictures of the tank up close etc. I took the tank, sideplates and seat off and before pulling the carbs was curious how she behaved right out of the gate. The battery was bone dry but with my charger on it I was able to determine that all the lights, horn and starter works. The turn signals are different looking than my 78 skunk. Instead of round tubes they have one flat side and seem a little longer. They all match so I still believe they are stock.

I let some oil soak in the pistons for a bit then gingerly cranked her and she shot oil out of each spark plug hole. Yee haw! Carbs are leaking like a sieve so pulling those off is next. The PO said he had a professional valve job done on the bike when he got it and basically parked it.... "uhhuh sure"

I discovered the problem. Evidently there is a limit to the amount of albums or pictures you can have here.

I deleted some older ones (which of course ruins the old posts) So will have some space to add a couple more pictures as I go along.

I have been doing some polishing while waiting on stator gasket and point cover gasket. I learned that after stripping the clear coat off they were practically mirror shine immediately except for a stain or two.

PHOTOBUCKET has a limit to the size of your file that is FREE. Pay a few extra bucks per year, and the size gets MUCH larger.

I think it is actually kind of silly to have to use another hosting site to manage my interest in this site.

Why in the world don't the administrators here figure out the cost of the bits and bites and offer an "upgrade" like photo bucket does. Then instead of just getting donations to the site, they could also have a sort of upgraded "membership".

By relying on use of another service, this site is actually in a compromised position from deleted pics ............ that in turn will not maintain the threads.

Because the admins are volunteers and they would have to move the entire site to another web hosting service that costs a lot more money to accomplish what you want

Just spend 5 minutes getting a Photobucket account, which is free, and post your pictures full sized like everyone else

Or, volunteer to move the forum and manage it as you wish
