GS850G Adventure Project
Well I started the tear down. You can see what I was left with for a wire harness in a nice pile on the garage floor. Most of it was taped together and wires not connected; it was easier to simply pull it out and rewire the whole thing. I'll be using V-strom controls and a similar handlebar (it's comfortable for me).

I'm using V-strom parts, but it will be far milder than even a V-strom, something more like the Honda CB500x or Kawasaki Versys. As it has been stated once before, the 850 is heavier and the suspension isn't the greatest. Being out here in the Las Vegas desert I just want something that will handle the dirt roads and maintained trails to go visit ghost towns and other sites. Otherwise the bike will be 95% highway/road.
Yeah, not a fan of the green and white combo, especially in the current design. The boss (wife) likes the green, so I agreed we can have green in the new color scheme, but I'm changing the design and other color(s). Possibly a darker cream & green accents, or all black with green accents. I don't know yet, I have time to decide.

Dan (salty_monk) once had some dual sport tyres and hand guards on a GS1000 called "BajaZuki", it looked pretty cool...
I have some generic hand guards on my scrambler inspired 450 although I've dropped the dual sport tyres in favour of Avon RoadRiders now as I only ride on the road. The hand guards fit well on the motorcross 'bars I have on there with the stock brake and clutch levers. They're BikeIt Venom reinforced handguards if that helps you any, not sure if you're looking for some or not.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

That looks pretty sharp. I'm looking for more hand coverage, we ride pretty much all year round so it can get cold in the mountains. I was looking at Power Madd as they have add-ons that will cover more area. Thanks for the info.

Cool, and yep year round rider here too, although we don't exactly get snow
Those Venom guards definitely help keep the wind chill to a minimum on the fingers and if you can keep moving they help a lot in the rain as well.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie
