That master sure looks a ton better. When they look like they do in your "before" picture, they're surprisingly brittle.

Update: Just ordered a set of APE Super Pro pods along with a Jardine 4 to 1 and a Dynojet stage 3 kit. The Jardine is coming off ebay, the pods are coming from Pingel, and the Dynojet kit is coming from Z1. Kudos to Z1 for having the absolute cheapest prices on Dynojet kits I have found anywhere. $96. Just wow.

Where did you get the grips and bar end mirrors (and what brand)? I'm looking to put superbike bars on my 650 and really like your setup

Bars
Mirrors
Grips
I like them both really well. The only nitpick is that the powder coat on the right end has to be thinned (ie sanded) to allow free spin of the throttle tube. I just slammed them on at first even though the bars had reviews stating as much and had bad bind upon throttle release. I pulled the tube back off and sanded it with 180 grit evenly around maybe 8-10 times and all was good. As far as the grips go you will have to cut the ends off if you plan to run the bar end mirrors for obvious reasons. When you remove the metal cap in the pic there is still a rubber plug under it. It took all of 30 seconds per grip with an xacto knife (brand new slim blade) to prep them up right. I never plan to change this setup and even if I do for the price of the grips I can simply buy a new set if needed. One last hint is that in the last pic I posted to show the before shot of the master you can see I had to sand off the ridges on the throttle tube to get the grips on and even then they are tight which is good. I have to really torque it to get the grip to slip any if at all.

Got the SS brake lines in so am in the process of totally refurbishing front brakes. MC is already done. Lines are installed with a banjo brake light switch. All that's left now is to clean and paint calipers then rebuild and install. Calipers are in sonic cleaner for round 2 so that should be done in the next day or so. I also received my APE Super Pro pod filters from Pingel and thought I'd share some side by side comparisons with a legit K&N pod that is on the 750L. Link to pods here.
Todays superbikes require free breathing. These special high performance filtering elements with chrome end caps not only work great, but look good too. Dont strangle your bike with poor air filtrationinsist on the best... "Super Pro." Sold in sets of 4. For Mikuni RS Flatslide 34mm, 36mm, 38mm, 40mm and OEM Stock Carbs.
The reason I decided to do the side by side was to a) correlate a review from another user here that installed them on his 650 and b) dispel a bit of a misconception I ran into when I suggested these to another member. As can be seen in the photos, the overall fit and finish on these is right on par with the K&N. And remember we are talking a set of filters that run $60 for the set vs $150. That's a 250% difference in price for near identical filters. The filtration materials look identical under 10x magnification aside from their color and appear to be similar thicknesses. Installation will happen this weekend when I receive my Jardine 4:1 but I have zero qualms riding with these filters. The one difference I noted, which is especially clear in the last photo, is the difference in the mounting boots. Not entirely sure what, if any, difference it will make as far as mounting security etc but I figured I'd point it out to be objective. Overall though these filters appear to be top notch quality for far, far less than K&N products.

MC Rebuild
Reservoir
I went with rebuilding because when I replaced the one on the L the new one I got was a PITA to get fully sorted. I put on one with a remote reservoir that was finicky as hell. it came with a bad reservoir hose, pi$$ poor clamps, and the o ring that sealed the barb into the cup was fouled with a metal shaving and had to be replaced. All for $60. I should have rebuilt the old one too but you live and learn I guess. I sure did.Last edited by Guest; 07-15-2014, 06:32 PM.

Interesting to see how the pods run on the 850.
They do look good though, I wonder if they make a set to fit bs26ss carbs.

Niko what is the outside diameter of your carb where the air filter would attach? If memory serves my bs32ss carbs have a diameter of 53mm.

I THINK 52mm but i am really not sure. I havent had the boots of to ever measure from the air box. Will be pulling it apart soon! Seems like a good alternative, apparently Ape have been making them for some time now.

Regarding the pods....when I washed my k&ns they turnred somewhat white then returned to the pinkish color after I oiled them. I wonder if the APEs are oiled. Looks like a lot of light passing thru them on the photo of the inside.sigpic

There seems to be a residue of oil on them so I'm thinking they are. When I install them ill probably give them a light mist to be safe.

Came home today to a nice big box with a Jardine 4:1 inside it. Exhaust is NOS and got an ok deal on it since it looks like it sat wrapped in plastic or something and got too warm (came from Texas) and the plastic melted or at least transferred some residue to the pipe. Anyways, I had already upjetted when I rebuilt the carbs a while back so I should be ok at least until this weekend when I get the pods and Dynojet installed. Plug chops are showing a nice medium tan so I'm in the ballpark for the exhaust by itself at least. I absolutely LOVE the sound of this pipe. It pops on decel, which is due in most part to stripped threads on #3 exhaust port (PO strikes yet again, that'll make 2 so far, have tap and die and heli coil so I'll fix that this weekend as well...) but otherwise makes a beautiful noise. It's far tamer than I honestly expected. Deep and throaty without being ridiculous. May just be placebo effect or the effect of losing the weight of the stock exhaust but bike feels snappier at all throttle openings in any gear. As ever blah blah blah pics. Lol.
In the pics you can also see I got the SS brake lines installed and the front calipers painted and rebuilt with new pistons and seals/boots. Rear brake system goes on the to do list for this weekend then I'll be down solely to cosmetic issues.

Getting some progress made this weekend. So far the pods are installed and the Dynojet is in. All is good on that front. Will be tuning over the coming days. As a throw back to my side by side with the K&N I did find the difference in the shape of the mounting boot mandated that I really pay attention to where the clamp was on the boot otherwise the pod would walk itself off the carb when tightened down. Once I figured it out all went without further issue. Also have the majority of the body painted at this point. All that's left is the tank and eventually the fork lowers, though the lowers may wait til winter unless I get a spare pair I can rebuild in the meantime. The last, and most exciting (for me at least) thing I have done is I ripped the cover off the seat and reshaped it to what I wanted it to be. I removed the duck's a$$ on the back of the seat, smoothed the hump in the center, and scalloped the side edges of the seat where my inner thighs ride to try and improve the seat just a little (not much was needed in the first place given this is the most comfortable seat I have ever ridden). Going to grab some material and do a temp seat cover until I can find a reputable upholsterer locally to set me up. There's a guy lives down the road so I'll be hitting him up to see if he has ever done any MC seats. As ever, pics.
