do you know if the two holes on the cleats are original and whether they come to a point before they were cut of?

The outer hole is the original one.
I had to cut out the metal that went around it to fit an extension for my exhaust brackets.

              hi kiwi canuck,

since you have a register going, i was just wandering whether you knew by any chance, how many of these gs1000s were ever made?
i know they were 1979 and 1980 only bikes, but do we have a break up of numbers made correlating to years and how many blues and reds made?
              just wandering

From my best guess, about 7,000 units produced in '79 and 5,000 for 1980. Not sure on the Blue/White versus Red/White ratio.
The challenge I have is that Suzuki used the 53XXXX for both the GS1000ST and the GS1000ET, so even though I have a fairly good indication of the range of numbers for the 1980 models there are blocks of ET's scattered in there and that makes the estimate of 5,000, well just a wild guess.
Because the GSX1100 came out at the end of 1979 it would have slowed the sales of the 2 valve model and therefore the production numbers would probably reflect that.

BTW did you get a set of passenger pegs yet?

from those figures i would assume that there is a lot less of the 1980 red model made....

also, i take it the GS1000ET is the 1979 model where as the GS1000ST being the 1980 model......?

Suzuki uses a letter at the end of each model to designate the year.
                    The "T" denotes the year "T" = 1980 "N" = 1979
So GS1000ST is the 1980 "S" model and the GS1000SN is the 1979 model.
                    And GS1000ET is the 1980 "E" model

I believe most of the 1980 ST's that went Australia and Europe were Red & White and I don't believe any Red and white was sold in USA or Canada.

im just new to this forum and im looking for people with either this bike or knowledge on this bike,
that may point me to the right direction on some issues regarding the resto of it.

i have recently purchased this and i know absolutely nothing about this bike....

but im starting out with the frame....

someone before me has put an angle grinder to the cleats that hold the rear pillion pegs....see photo.
i dont know why this happened and i find such a thing quite incredible.
...anyway, it is what it is.
im trying to find someone who has a photo of one close up, so that i can get an idea of proportion and of what to weld on the frame.

ive done a little research but from what i understand, this detail is different again on the blue and white model....?

                      not sure.....

any assistance will be greatly appreciated...
Hey met, I think it might be your lucky day, pal.

Been hanging onto these for a while now. PM me if you can use them.

G'day all, I'm in South Australia and I just picked up a basket case 1980 GS1000s in red and white, after a fairing and screen (have the brackets) and some other bits. Tank is signed: Graham Crosby F1 world champion. This bike seems to have some history, it came from a deceased estate and no one has any info there about the bike except that it was bought to use as spares, too good for that!

are you going to keep it, sell it or wreck it do you think?

G'day met, I'm going to keep it and restore it.
Also have a GS1000G awaiting repair and another GS1000G that I have given to my son, we're going to do up the G's together.
