So this is not an accurate statement at all.... Sorry!

1980-81 had leading axle design without a doubt. The motor, forks, swingarm & peg brackets are all correct for being "1100E". The other L parts above the frame spine were obviously added later.

Hey good luck with your project. The foundation should be a great base for whatever you do with it as long as the motor is sound. "16 valve powah!"

I stand corrected on the forks. Always thought that the leading axle thing was "L" specific. That bike is still really cobbled up though... I'll go sit in the corner now.

Darn, with so many daily riders it's hard to decide which one to jump on next.;)

Here are some more pictures for your enjoyment. The motor runs strong but I will still rebuild it, only because if the PO f***ed the other stuff on this bike that as bad as it was, no telling what corners were cut in the motor. And it is going to be off frame anyway in about a week. New gauges and lights and rebuild the suspension is in the near future. The current aftermarket gauges do not work and the wires have been clipped. Lots of work to come. I'll keep pictures coming as progress is made. Any advice on this build will be greatly appreciated.

Looks like the PO wanted an 1100 but without the lunchbox and square headlight.

unless you can count the VC bolts and see the stamp above the clutch cover...
why would you say it isn't an 81 E engine?

You got a good project base, no experience personally with dent removal. Friend of mine popped his dent out through the petcock hole. Some have used welding studs to pull, dry ice, pixie dust. There should be helpful info in the appearance section on dents.
                    good luck

Ok so the motor is out, swing arm is off, and rear end is disassembled. Fairly easy this far. The steering stem hearings were rusted(see pic below) and the swing arm looked like it went through hell and back. Here are more progress pictures for anyone that's interested.

That head bearing is nasty. Should be fun getting the races off the stem and out of the headstock. Good luck. It's gonna be worth it when you're done

I also have a 81 1100E. I need new intake boots on sides of the carbs. They're all cracked and some are hard on side and softer on the other. Either way, they're not sealing. Where is a good reputable place to get both sets of the intake boots? Also how in the world do I change the boots coming out of the intake box?

You really shouldn't hijack this thread and you'll get much better responses if you post in the Carb/Fuel/Exhaust section

Also, welcome to the forum! After you figure out your boot issues, or better yet before, check out this thread Here

Check out eBay or dimecitycycles.com they are alot of good stuff. You can also do an internet search for what you are looking for and 9 out of 10 times find what you need. As for the air box...get some pods!
