Scary scary isn't it! So true, I walk down the hall, their heads down walking. I stop, let them collide with me, makes the point and they soon start lifting their heads.

i just facilitate, if they want to play with their devices it's their choice. Pass mark is 70, they quickly realize to pay attention and put away their devices.

Good looking motorcycle Fjbj40 I think it will clean up nice. Perhaps I'll get to see it in person. I'm planning a motorcycle vacation to Nova Scotia next summer. It sure looks beautiful in your neck of the woods and I love seafood...

So I tore into the valve cover to try and figure out noise. It was like a rattling sewing machine.

did not take long to find problems

not good, but doesn't explain the noise, but this does

looks like the cam tower locating bushing

The noise was coming from the #4 intake area and that is exactly where I found that little guy.

Appears as if someone has been in here before, they used gasket maker instead of a gasket. She smokes, 3 and 4 plugs are a nice tan color. But 1 and 2 are oily.

Prior to this I gave the engine a thorough degreasing. Lots of oil and grease plus paint came off.

I will be pulling the cams tomorrow, hopefully saddles are OK.

So am I safe in assuming the rockers need replacement or can I reface them?

looks like a dowel floating around in there got smashed.
take a look and if you want to install some 1150 cams let me know.
plus if you need any dowels i have a coffee can full.
same goes with rockers...i have plenty including GSXR rocker sets.

the rocker can be hard welded at around 65.00 each.
they can't be reground only replaced or hard welded.

Are the GSXR rockers longer? If so this would effectively increase lift over standard rockers would it not?

Saddles are perfect, no visible wear or scoring of any sorts.

weird taking off the cam caps though, they were very tight, typical from people being heavy handed. But when the torque broke there was a puff of air each time, also some water shot out, droplets!!?

So cam time, but I will pull the jugs off tomorrow and check cylinders, measure and see where I go from here.

                      cheers,

daryl i believe the GSXR rockers are the same ratio as the 1100/1150.
ray would know for sure...JD also would know.
what you felt when loosing the cam cap bolts was a hy·drau·lic lock???...anyways i think that is the correct terminology.
                        no harm/no foul.
these will re-tighten around 90 inch lbs.

Well I am terrible at doing updates!

So far the frame has been painted along with forks, triple trees, swingarm, rear shocks, all handlebar perches and levers. All brake components were broke down, sonic cleaned and painted with caliper paint and roasted in the oven/autoclave.

The engine was completely disassembled, glass beaded, sonic cleaned, aluminum oxide blasted and sonic cleaned twice. then it was painted with GunKote semi-gloss black and roasted.

The cases have been reassembled and it is waiting on the stand to get cylinders installed and then back in the frame. I install the head after it goes in the frame.

Purchased new ss brake hoses from Rensport, GS1150 cams from Blowerbike along with other parts. Carbs were broken down, blasted, sonic cleaned 3 times and reassembled with all new parts as necessary. painted and roasted.

The front forks received Sonic 1.0 springs and Mikes xs emulators with adaptors amd 10 weight oil. The anti-dive units were disassembled and a plug machined up and welded where the bleeder use to be.

Last weekend I spent about 8 hours cleaning the bare aluminum parts of the wheels, just need to hit with the 600 grit and Mothers Mag polish this weekend.

I have seen a couple of Bandit 1200's here for less than I have in her by now, maybe I should have just bought one of those.........nawwww

It was a long winter here this year, largest record of snowfall since 1955!

Pictures to follow in a couple of days....

                            Cheers
