Careful for what you ask for... You may not get the response that you expect. Personally not a fan of a "big bike" café. It looked better stock IMHO.

PM me if you're want to part with some of the parts that are now missing.

Darn, with so many daily riders it's hard to decide which one to jump on next.;)

IMOP you ruined a perfect stock example of the GS1000E.......I need to say no more
1978 Gs1085 compliments of Popy Yosh, Bandit 1200 wheels and front end, VM33 Smoothbores, Yosh exhaust, braced frame, ported polished head
1983 Gs1100ESD, rebuild finished! Body paintwork happening winter 2017:D

I would rather trust my bike to a technician that reads the service manual than some backyardigan that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix things.

Most of the guys here are purists, don't like to see decent examples cut up. Usually they are OK if you started with a lost cause. That includes me. However, you have done a credible job of getting the cafe thing going. I don't like the side panels not fitting the triangulation they are hung on, but it's a pretty good piece of work. I tore my 850 up on a deer in August, and considered doing something akin to yours, but couldn't bring myself to part with the stock seat and Vetter wind protection.

I think you need to learn how to post bigger pictures, so I can whatever the frame mods are

I like it, but I do agree about tearing up a nice bike. However it's your project and at the end of the day these are still only about 1500-2000 bikes. It looks like you did it tastefully.

This kinda stuff kills me - cafe bikes should be built from junkers, not clean/original/functional ones...

It was not as clean as the pictures show, the inside of the tank was all rust, the tank was acid dipped and the paint was not good, plus it had a few good sized dents in the tank. I had the tank lined at a radiator shop, and powder coated. The side covers are the stock side covers wrapped with carbon fiber. I have a VH 4-1 going on and a set of black rear shocks, I like the cafe style seat more than the ugly turn signals and rear under fender and plate mount. so that is the only real change. Stock tank, stock side covers, stock light and a set of drag bars. I got the bike for $800, its far from a perfect bike, the wheels were all pitted and needed refinished, so I had them pc black, the brakes were all frozen, so they got cleaned and pc white like the tank.

The seat, rear section and stock exhaust were all in great shape, the rear tail light was cracked but looks good. I have all the stock parts if someone wants it, just pm me.

don't worry much about defending your choice. there's a large faction of purists here. the rest of us tend to dislike those who hack up a bike, then come here and go "it doesn't run right" then put it on Craigslist as a project lauding their builder abilities

Since you're only changing the tail, and reviving a dead bike, why should these guys complain?

I do recommend you check Air Tech for a stylish front fender, one wet day and you'll know why that big fender was put on both ends

Looks nice, and don't worry about the purists. It's your bike and personally I think the originals are ugly anyways
