    1983 gs1100e

So today was a big day for me. Found a 1983 GS1100E on Craigslist earlier this week after countless weeks of searching. After much ado and swearing I would be there today with his full asking price to secure the bike against the numerous other interested buyers (or so PO claims) I walked away with a running 1100E for $800. Bike has a Vance and Hines 4:1 and some sort of fender brace as well as a set of clubmans on it. Overall I'm happy with it. It needs the normal maintenance such as oil and filter, bearings, carbs cleaned etc but she's all there and starts. Clubmans are getting ditched immediately for a set of super bike bars like I have on my 850G and I am in search of a set of clean side panels with all the tabs intact as the ones on the bike have been bastardized with screws and such. Paint is beyond awful. It'll need stripped and repainted after maintenance is done. Will be doing a 530 swap on it as well as adding a Dynojet kit and a set of APE pods. Tires are newer so I'll leave them til last to be replaced. Once the carbs are cleaned and synced and the plugs are replaced as well as valves checked I will test the charging system and probably add the sh-775 as well as an Electrosport stator. Future plans include GSX-R running gear as well as Dyna ignition and coils. Anyways enough talking. First three pics are from the Craigslist ad and last one is the ride (on the trailer lol) home.

Forgot to add not sure if it's stock or not but the oil cooler on it is a Lockhart. Some of the more knowledgeables here will know for sure but I was happy to see it.

Coolness....as far as I know 1100s did not come with oil coolers. It has a fork brace added also. Congrats and enjoy.

If it runs that is a great price. 83 with a black motor worth $500 by itself

I knew it was good as soon as it started on the first roll. You can hear one cylinder cutting in and out so it definitely needs maintenance but the fact it runs sealed the sale. After I got it off the trailer it went into the garage under its own power. Will probably be the last time it runs for awhile but reassuring nonetheless. Excited to get it roadworthy for spring. Its going to be a long cruel winter lol.

Nice! I want one of these as well, one day I'll find mine. Pretty few and vary far between where I live.

                How many miles?

Trust me, it would be more cruel if you had bought this in the spring. The work was inevitable so it might as well be when you can't ride it anyway.

                      Congrats.
Sure looks like an excellent starting point.

I like the idea and the look from the side but the overall look suffers. I plan to use clip-ons if I intend to keep the bars low like they are now. Otherwise like I said I will switch to superbike bars and leave it at that.

It's rare to see an '83 painted an '82 color. Usually it's the other way around.

Looks nice; good luck with it.

It's not painted the 82 color, although from the ad pics I thought so as well. It is a generic silver poorly sprayed over what looks to be factory red with an intermediary coat of some sort of purple. This thing has more layers of paint than an onion.
