James, I think that whether the Bimota was sold as a complete bike or a kit bike depended on the country where it was sold1978 GS 1000 (since new)
1979 GS 1000 (The Fridge, superbike replica project)
1978 GS 1000 (parts)
1981 GS 850 (anyone want a project?)
1981 GPZ 550 (backroad screamer)
1970 450 Mk IIID (THUMP!)
2007 DRz 400S
1999 ATK 490ES
1994 DR 350SES

AFAIK they were always built/sold as complete bikes. If they were sold as "kits" it was for legal/registration reasons.

Put a Pingel petcock on it. I imagine the 31mm's are more hungry for fuel then the stock petcock would allow. Always have the stock one to go back to or sell it to another member, if it doesn't help matters.GS\'s since 1982: 55OMZ, 550ES, 750ET, (2) 1100ET\'s, 1100S, 1150ES. Current ride is an 83 Katana. Wifes bike is an 84 GS 1150ES

Occasionally she will get a little motivation at that speed but it never lasts more than a few seconds. I have thoroughly gone through the carbs and they are good. I replaced the previous Dyna S ignition as it was not getting spark to two of the cylinders and did new wires, caps and plugs at the same time. Of course the bike sat for extended periods during these various changes to the tune of several years at a time making me very quick with the carbs. So before I toss new Dyna coils on the girl I want to verify some information. i would rather learn something instead of tossing parts at the issue till the problem is solved. I want this setup running right before I toss the Keihin CR31 smooth bores on which I have sitting on the shelf.
1. My engine number is GS1000-135676 . What year GS1000 is this and which model?
2. I'm using NGK B8ES plugs with .030 gap. Are these correct?
3. Do I need resistor plug caps? If so who sells the proper caps and wires?
Thanks a bunch for any help.
some SB3 were supplied as kits although according to my research most were delivered as complete bikes using new 1980 GS1000 engines
a friend of mine has one that as assembled from a kit in new zealand in 1981 he is the original owner and helped assemble so i know this to be correctLast edited by Guest; 03-13-2015, 03:32 PM.

Finally getting back to this after some distractions.
The bike was a kit using a donor 1980 GS1000. This information came from the fellow who originally imported the kit and did the assembly.
Still chasing the same issue of resistance when trying to rev in the top 2 gears (feels like she wants to go but just cant pull). This starts around 5200RPM when giving 3/4 or better throttle. Suspect it may be running rich at the top and still testing. She is running better but not perfect. Hating this new gas I've started using Sunoco 260GTX. This is not for the increased octane value of 98 (would prefer race gas with a lower octane) but to avoid the ethanol crap from the pump.
Regards,
Chris
