My new project.
1978 GS1000.
Inspiration Wes Cooley reps and race bikes.
I purchased this off my brother earlier this year. It was built up from his collection of leftover parts from a previous build.

The frame has had the footpeg brackets removed already and quite a few bits and pieces are not there.
Has GS(X) alloy swingarm fitted. It did have the rear shocks. These pics show the approx. ride height I'm after. The shocks are the same length as CB900 which I had read somewhere were a good length to use. I tried my spare set and the fork end was too narrow to fit the bushes in the arm, hence the steel rods.

Looking around for a few things I found this exhaust which I really liked the curved shaped to the headers and the way the muffler is fabricated. It also bolted on real nice, though I’m not sure how the paint will stand up.
Next on the list was a master cylinder for the front. This and the exhaust purchased from Webike.jp. Very happy with their service.

The clutch perch is from a 1990-96 GS500.

I decided to go with GSXR 1100 J 18inch Wheels for something a bit different. I painted these with VHT wheel paint after reading up on what was considered the best rattle can spray paint.

Fitted these with Michelin Road Pilot 3’s. Choice is a bit limited in OZ for these sizes 110/80 and 160/60.

Next on the list was some rearsets. Fleabay came up with these at a good price to suit a 96-05 GSXR 600.

They seem to fit pretty well, even the gear shift rod appears to be about the right length.

Forks are GSXR 1100 K, Triple Clamps are 1200 bandit, the head light is a leftover CB900 one. The brackets are CNC’d Aluminium ones.

I fitted up the front and back wheels along with the front end. The bandit stem was about 19-20mm too long. I shortened it through the middle and welded it back together as a temporary measure. I will be getting a new one made at a later date.
The front calipers are 92 GSXR 11 and the rear caliper is J model GSXR, which will be underslung. Rear master cylinder is 04 GSXR 1000.

its starting to look like a real decent bike,.. i like it.

just amazing how a set of wheels and a more beefy front end can transform the way a bike looks..

Impressed with the paint job on the rims, came out mint.
Agree with GS's comments about what a set of wheels and a new front end make the bike look heaps better.
I though that bike was to far gone looking at the first post but I am now watching for the next instalment.

I thought some trail bike fat bars may work, that was incorrect. The height was ok, but they don’t have enough sweep back.
