Is their any years that parts interchange with the 85 550e? This bike means the world to me and to see it run again is beyond my imagination. Any and all help in this project is helping to make my sons last dream, a reality.Comment

83-86 550e es and Ls share the same engine
except that the shift drum is different because of the way the shifter is on the L
If you swap and L motor into a 550 e es then your shift pattern gets inverted not a show stopper but weird.
The handlebar switch gear is the same for a lot of all the bikes produced in the same range of years.
Other than that not a lot of interchange.Comment

Sorry about your son. What a great way to honer him.. Good luck on your build. You can try Megacycle cams for cam's. I just had them weld and re-grind mine last week. Barbara at Megacycle may be able to tell you where you may find some wisco pistonsComment
