92 GSXR 1127 engine into 750F Katana, [sick]

    The seller has no idea; “Condition: Used, dents & rash. Mid pipe and muffler are not made from the same manufacturer as the header, possibly homemade. Baffles intact”.
    It's from a 94 GSXR, I have a 92, but I think the 93-98 1100 is just a modified version of the earlier engines.
    For the low price of $140+free shipping, I'll find out if it fits.
    I'm only worried it'll be louder than I like, so I'll have to find another can.
    It's been hanging unsold for some time on ebay.

      The 93-98 GSXR1100 engine is a 1074cc liquid cooled unit and not at all the same as the 1127cc oil cooled engines. Bore spacing and exhaust port details may be the same, but that needs to be confirmed.

        Ok, the stuff came today.
        The headers; made by Five Star Mfg., Crest Hill Illinois, (still in business, moved to TN, make catalytic converters for cars and some other stuff.)
        The pipes were close together, but it was easy to bend them apart so they fit the oil cooled engine. Not sure how they were handled so they may have been pushed tighter together, I don't care.
        The muffler is only 8" long, so no way that's gonna be quiet enough for me, even with new packing. Squids would dig it, loud = chick magnet (they think).
        The GSXR aluminum rear subframe is about as light as paper, really impressed with that.

          Awesome read. (Bookmark didn't save for some reason the other night, so been searching for it 'till now, "tagged").

          Planning on getting into engine more on my '93 GSX1100g when the weather gets icy. Until then just trying to ride as much as possible and figure out details. (Finally got it on road in June).

          Studying all the 1127 information I come across for now.

          Oh, My bike had 4-1 unknown header w/ 2" pipe at the "1" , and one day a neighbor asked me if I wanted his neice's old swingset for scrap, Right when I was working on figuring how to fit the late model Triumph 900 sportbike (but chrome) muffler (craigslist $40,nearby too).
          Anyway he gave me some slotted angle-iron garage door hanger pieces too.

          About 45 minutes later he came over and I had the bend from swingset cut/fitted, one straight swingset pipe, an automotive 2"-2" coupler, and used one of the angle irons to extend from stock mount to the hole for mounting on the muffler.
          I was basically like "hey thanks for the stuff, checkout what I made with it." He was scratching his head.
          I have few pics for sometime. Worked out perfect for clearance and all, a bit long but comfy distance ...

            Very nice transformation, Bill. You are giving me ideas about a project on my son's 400F, although not up to the same capacity!

              Been really wanting to know/ ask about any recommendations on study material for working on the 1127 motors?
              I can't even find a service manual for my '93 GSX1100G. I'll probably go with the closest make (would be Katana that year) If I can locate one.

              My bike has a little over 30K . I know the PO rode it pretty rough and neglected it the short time he had it. Before that a woman owned it.
              But she must've been one wild tough chick. worste paint imagineable too IMO. Bike had multi-color glitter sticking off the crappy paint, two color body panels under that.

              I've seen motors for around $600 but I'd need to study up before spending that and finding the space to work. Hoping to rebuild what I have sometime. Or swap it because I really like this MC.

              LOL, years ago, in between jobs I called MMI in Florida and the guy wanted credit check (despite telling him I'd pay cash) , Then asked me about doing a criminal background check and more kooky stuff !!!

              Also, Buffalo Bill do you offer any services on these motors like the heads, cam change, etc.?
              The way mine runs it'll be a while before I want faster but some day I'd like to see the full potential probably.

                  I don't offer any mechanical work at all, I'm just an amateur.
                  The oil cooled GSXR engine was so successful they put it in many bikes for decades, including the Katana and Bandit.
                  The GSX1100G engine is tuned like the Bandit 1200 engine, for low and midrange torque.
                  If you want to make it like the GSXR, you can drop in GSXR cams, hi-flow 4-1 exhaust and jet the carbs a size up.
                  You definitely need to know the maintenance chores for the shaft drive system, so find the right manual.

                    Thanks Buffalo Bill, that low-mid range torque is right where I like it for traffic/usefulness/ fun.
                    It's really incredible with jetted RS carbs too. Definately not for beginners IMO.
                    The lighter Katana/GSX R must really be something!

                    I imagine with the 750 frame it's probably lighter than the 1100 Katana/ GSXR also even(?)

                    I forgot to thank Hillsy for the AWESOME PDF
                    (I'm about to search/ research/ study whatever can find on the fuel pump workings...Dunno whether it'll work with my carbs, etc.) ( attempting Installing new fuel pump tommorrow, when rain lets up). (I downloaded, read bunch...)

                    That info helped/saved me on first paragraph read. I almost connected 2 amp charger with wiring connected but luckily had read NOT to do so over 0.84 amps (IIRC) to avoid damage R/R . By the way.

                      Ok, yes have been doing some studies about how to replace the steel subframes and brackets behind the tank.
                      This will be a between seasons winter project.

                      All the steel here, replaced by a 1993 GSXR rear subframe:

                        Cool to see the update!
                        I was wondering what happened.
                        The one pic looks SO close to being able to use just bolts for the top and bottom locations(?)

                        I was surprised when I jump started my GSX1100G with my truck battery (couple weeks ago) it ran fine with no battery.
                        (CBR for example won't) That's 10lb.s of battery . Not up to speed with current racing batteries but I bet there's some much lighter(for cutting a few more Lb.s)(?)

                        Your GS sure looks nice, classy too even half obscured! By the way.
