And this is what it looks like from the back end.
Top tank mounts have to be cut and brought in and the end of the tank obviously has a different mounting point so I will be making a bracket to hold it in nicely.
Also I have to think of a new position for the spark coils...

The 450e tank looks better than the others. Glad to see your moving along.

If anyone is chasing measurements I thought I would put this up to.

Hey Chris! Wow I missed a 450 thread... and a fellow Brissie GS'er to boot! I've been a bit scarce lately over here but I'm starting to check in a bit more often.

If you want a relatively simple carb upgrade, GS500 carbs will almost bolt straight in, just be sure to use the proper GS500 intake boots rather than the 450 ones. They're different enough to be worth while changing. They have a much larger intake though so you won't be able to use your airbox or pods designed for the 450. I went with some generic velocity stacks but there was lots of stuffing around getting them to fit and then making up some filters to keep the dirt out of the motor.

Give us a shout if I can be of assistance... mine's an 82 but a lot of bits are still in common with the 83's and on so I still may have a clue

Have to catch up some day too, most of the guys I ride with are on old GS/GSX's as well.

Hi Pete, I don't want to let you down but unfortunately mine is only a 400! I managed to find a 450 tank not long ago which has just been fitted as I prefer the style of it. In all honesty I think it is actually a 82 model even though the plate states 83, the reason being I can't find pictures of GSX400E 1983 but there are plenty of 1982's!

Absolutely! I am looking forward to getting it up and running and out on the road!

                    Coming along Swindy!

Didn't we say the 500 carbs won't work on the 400 head? I remember we had some conversations about it, but I can't recall the actual specs....

On my 450, I noticed a pretty big improvement in power going with a MAC 2-1 pipe (never used their muffler though, I have a Supertrapp). And I would switch back and forth between the stock exhaust and the MAC from time to time, and could feel the difference repeatedly.

All good Chris... I neglected to see the title said GSX400... my bad... haha

I definitely seem to recall seeing an '83 GSX400E mentioned somewhere...

Do you have another ride while doing this one? If so you're welcome to join us, you don't have to be on a GS(X) to join us

Rich, I think that was the early 2 valve 400's, not the 4 valve GSX400's but I could be wrong. I looked at the measurements Chris posted earlier and they look the same as the 450 measurements... centre to centre anyway.

I'd have to dig my old carbs out if I still have them and measure again to be certain... did a clean out the other week and can't remember if they were in the trash pile or not!

Edit: Yep, definitely was an '83 GSX400E: http://www.suzukicycles.org/GSX-series/GSX400E.shtml

Cool build, hope to see it finished! Loving the 450E tank as well! Picked one up for free from the local junkyard recently, had some trade credits, but yours is definitely in better condition.

                          Hi Guy's,
Sorry for the late reply, I'm at work for 3 weeks atm. Hi Pete all good! No sorry I don't have another bike on the road now, I did have a Ninja a while back but left the country for a bit and had to sell it on. I will give you guys a better update when I am back home. Just have to search for a legal nice looking tail light before I can make up the seat pan and fit the back end, and spend some time mocking up an electrics tray and figure out what I need and where to put it all.

Rebuild those shocks. They can be made to work fairly well, but I gaurantee they are not filled completely with oil, and the N2 charge is inconsistent. Here is a how-to thread I put to gether for the process. It isn't difficult, but I highly recommend getting bleed hole sres machined in the tops so you can fill them properly

Just a little update with some photos, took a while but I ended up finding a place a lot closer to home then expected and got 2 x over sized piston set and gudgen pins and cir-clips all for $307 Aussie dollars. Not bad considering the rip off cmnsl is.
