So, in preparation of installing the stock exhaust, I purchased a center stand, sent it out to the sand blaster and then I painted it before installing it. Today my plan was to install the stock exhaust, center stand and carbs/airbox.
Here is a picture of the center stand installed, I am thinking it may not be the correct center stand as the two rubber stops seem to hit early and keep the stand low.
Can anyone tell if this is where this stand should sit in the up position?:
After putting the center stand on, I attempted to install the exhaust. That didn't go too well. I learned that the ES and the E have different exhausts. So will either sell the nice set of ES pipes or search for a nice ES without stock pipes!
So now I have to wait on the carbs to see if I am going to have to jet them for a 4 into1 or a stock pipe.Last edited by Vmass; 11-21-2015, 06:24 PM.

When consulting the magic 8 ball for advice, one must first ask it "will your answers be accurate?"

I think its on right but the arm/foot pad to raise the bike on the stand looks wrong. The EZ/ED/ES arm is curved to go around the exhaust. There is also a pad on the exhaust to hold a small vibration bumper.

Really ? I thought it was just the finish. Black or Chrome.
Both the ES and ED had black chrome exhaust in '83. However, the hanger bracket on the two are in different locations. In trying to put the exhaust I have on the ED, the hanger bracket is 3" too far back from the bolt on the rear set where it belongs.

Definitely the wrong stand. I looked at pictures and I believe it is a stand for GK: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1982-suzuki-...FU19e9&vxp=mtr

Nice bike, I really like the blue GS1100. I have owned several red and several of the Champaign color 1100's but only one blue.

Valve adjustment went well and I finally got the correct valve cover gasket. I also replaced the breather gasket as well as the seal and o-ring on the tach drive.
I wasn't looking forward to the carb/air box reinstall......so I approached it with a " there has got to be a better way " attitude. And, there is!!
At first I put the boots on the intakes followed by the air box. As I held the carbs up it was your typical no room situation and I just wasn't up for it.
So, here is what I did in sequence:
1) Removed the carb holders
2) Installed the air box using two straps, one each around the top and bottom.
3) Cranked the straps to pull the air box as far back as I could without compromising the box.
4) Installed clamps on air box.
5) Installed carburetors in air box and secured clamps ( I kept the straps on the air box at this point).
6) Installed carb holders, order of installation:2,1,3,4. Because of the tapered design, there is plenty of room to do this.
7) Installed 2 clamps per holder, there is just enough room to get the clamps on because the air box is still strapped and pulled as far back as possible.
8) Tightened the engine side clamps on the carb holders.
9) Released the straps around the air box.
10) Popped the carbs into the carb holders and tightened the clamps. I used a strap around the back topside of the carbs which made popping them in easy.
This sequence saved me a lot of aggravation compared to trying to get the carbs in after the carb holders.
I am thinking this method may also be possible on the earlier models with the flanged carb holders, providing you switch to hex bolts

This bike is cleaning up nice. A little tuning today and fired up the bike. This Star pipe has a really nice sound, little louder than the V & H. I am still keeping my eye open for a stock set of pipes.
I sent the seat out and had Eddie redo it. Looks nice and is very comfortable. Stays off the tank a bit, but I imagine that will clear itself up with warmer temperatures and a little seat time.
I need to make a decision on the chain and sprockets. Only 17k on the bike, but I like a new chain. May do the 530 swap, will check pricing.
