1983 GS550l bobbed out
How's it going yall. I just picked this 83 gs550l up. I amdoing general Maintenanceon it, and turning it in to a bobber. I would like tokeep the hexogen frame just to be different. Plans are to pull everythingnot needed including access wires, upgrade stock front 16" rim to thestock 19" from another GS, ridged frame it, pod it, switch exhaust to oneside, jet the carb (research I have done shows I can use the jet kit for a 83gs550e), remove all gauges and indicators besides mph, bypass clutchhandle in start, remove mirrors, springer the front end (maybe), remove frontbrake/handle/hardware (as long as I can still stop good, if not it goes backon). Already removed mirrors, fenders, stock head light bracket assembly, frontfender, front blinkers, engine crash guard, front brake assembly. New rim hasbeen delivered and test fitted (had to add a small spacer to get to work),tires are ordered and on the way. They will be here Friday. All parts taken offwill be for sale, so if you need anything let me know.

Sounds like a very ambitious project, at least you have a plan in mind.
I would suggest that you keep the stuff you take off, just in case you want to get it back to rideable condition.
Or, if you decide to sell it, the new owner might appreciate having the parts so HE can get it rideable again.

I would keep the stuff if it would help resale, but around here where I live, it wont. Not many people interested in this model. not to mention when I do the frame it will be ridged. So I am going to sale the parts that come off and use the proceeds to get parts I need. Also here is a picture of the 2 front rims.20150922_191117_LLS.jpg

So I got the new rim in, and my new tires (shinko tour masters, 100/90-19, 130/90/16) the new rim won't allow me to install stock rotor/caliper. Looks like I'm forced to run only rear brakes. Which that is fine got drum brake working good, I can now lock rear tire up.[/URL[/URL

I would SERIOUSLY reconsider that front end setup if you can't use the front brake.
What is not fitting that makes you think you can't fit any brakes? Those forks HAD to have brakes on them originally, so some will be able to be fitted again. Yeah, might need a spacer or two, but please fit some front brakes and use them.

I'm talking about original brakes, caliper hits rim. Needing to get rotor and caliper from another model. Just need to do some research and find what will work
