Vinegar? That sounds cheap and mild enough. Don't really want to do any etching, but I would like to get most of the rusty crust. I'm sure the rinse won't do any harm. I didn't open up the float hole as I managed to see down to the top of the petcock and it looked rust free there. I pulled the petcock to drain completely. It wouldn't flow when I put it on prime. I'm tempted to buy a new one. I want to talk to Vince, he has some ideas on refurbishing them, that I want to hear.....

That rust doesn't look too bad, but if it sits too long it will just get worse, no rattly bits when you give it a shake? I'd still be tempted to line it with POR15 and be done with it once and for all.
I put in my wife's car.....I don't like Hondas No rattle bits. What you can see in the aluminium bowl are floating bits from pine tree and such. There were some real fine concentrations and I put them to a manganite and almost nothing stuck to it.

    Thanks guys for your input!

1st post....$200.00. I just need to add about $1200 and it will be road worthy, unless I need a rear shock, cables and a paint job. That's about what I spent on my 1100g and I wouldn't hesitate riding it over to your place to take a peek a your bikes. Yes a glutton.......? A Disease!

Sounds about right. I'm into my free EF for about $1800cdn. But then it needed a NOS gas tank, some paint and decals other than the usual tires, battery, rubber parts, etc, etc, etc......

I'm having a problem acquiring new boots connecting the carbs to the air box. Three Suzuki suppliers list item #2 no longer available. What are you 83-83 750 owners using for a replacement or how do you make do. Mine are really hard .

I cleaned up this plastic piece that goes on the triple tee and surrounds the ignition switch and noticed it was cut on the upper side and wondered why. I turns out that I don't have factory risers for my handle bars.and that this plastic piece has been altered to allow for these bars to be used.

Notice the silver area to the inside of the fork tubes and where the bars attach.

The forks are set higher on the triple tee so the " clip on" bars can attach to the top of the forks. I'm concerned it will effect the steering and be much lower than I'm use to. I'm not saying I want to get ride of them (clip ons) but I would like to have a stock set to try out first. I would welcome comments.

The stock bars mount above the triple tree like those do and use a bolt in the hole near the split in your bar clamp to locate the bar position, ie: no adjustment of bar angle which I really don't like too much. Stock bars on yours should have about a 4" rise while the ES/EF have about a 2" rise. Your forks look to be in the correct position. I can sttach a photo of mine if you like.

Sounds familiar.... Ive never sat on a 700, but the stock handlebars on my 1150 had an odd unnatural angle... to me anyway. I ended up with e bay sourced Telefix clip on types, but mine are more adjustable than what came on yours, plus they have a bit of rise. I didnt have the option to slide the forks up with the air crossover tube, and the fork didnt fully slide thru, but its never been an issue in the 12 plus years.
Mine are at the sweet spot between lazy and aggressive..... I too had to trim the plastic cover..... I feel a bit guilty for not feeling guilty for it..

That would be nice if you could do that. I would think my forks would be higher than stock.

I will second what Sandy said, the fork tubes extend that far up with the stock bars. Here's a pic of how high up they go

                              The tubes are extra long
As for the airbox boots I'd try wintergreen oil, worked wonders on the engine side boots on the 85.

As a last resort if you can not obtain new rubber, the old ones can be refurbished with wintergreen oil and xylene mixed at the rate of 70% wintergreen to 30% xylene. Soaking them for 8-12 hrs. will make you think you have new ones.
I did this with mine and then found out I could still buy replacements. Good luck.
