    1980 GS850G Project

    Hello Everyone!
Recently purchased a GS850G, off Craigslist, with the intentions of building a custom bike. This is my first motorcycle, I have never worked on one before, so this is a learning experience!! Anyways, the bike was purchased non-running. I was told its been sitting a while...not sure how long. Rather than try and get this sucker running asap, I decided that I would rather leave no stone upturned and do a complete assessment, which meant a complete rebuild! So here we go. Start date was November 20 2015.

The only photo I have from before I tore it down...the ad itself. ( I paid WAY less than the asking price! woo!!)

I have been tearing the bike down, noting every bolt and washer, carbs are out and awaiting some TLC.
Here is the bike partially torn, having way to much fun. ~November 23rd

      update #2

Had a lot of set backs. I could not get the gas cap off, the mechanism was seized. After finally getting it off, I found some stale gasoline has completely oxidized(rust) then entire innards of the tank. tried some acid washes with Murriatic (conc. HCl) acid with no success. Now debating purchasing a replacement, I decided what the hell, lets just do something stupid. so this happened.

Meanwhile, continuing the tear down, rebuilding carbs. Carbs contained alot of gunk, and the floats and needles were stuck. All jets were plugged shut, and I realized that trying to get this bike started would have been a mistake and a let down.
