    Resurrecting ANOTHER fallen Suzuki...

Been working on this 1983 GS1100E for a couple of months since scooping it out of Trevor's garage (much to his wife's elation) so I figured I should start a thread on it.

Trev got it for free, took the hideous white diamond-pleated disco seat off for recovering (for his 83 1100) and sold it to me for peanuts with the promise that I remove the exhaust and return it to him. A good deal from a good friend!

On the way home from his house.

On my lift! (Still had the old pipes on it)

    Beautiful patina!

    Not so beautiful patina!

    My GS11's together.

Ebay seat from Deliverance County, USA.

    Dumping old toxins.

Swapped the exhaust from the white GS to the blue... the m-f'er runs really well!

Lots left to do but that's what winter is for! Well, besides more riding, that is!

        New OEM grips

        New 530 chain and sprockets

Replaced bent headlight mounts with straight ones

Drained whatever the hell the nasty shizz was in the forks

Went over the braking system, flushed whatever the hell the shizz was inside of the brake lines

Repainted engine crank side covers, cam end covers, front master cylinder cover and Back to Blacked most of the black plastic bits

Installed OEM left engine cover finish plate (original was missing)

Repainted headlight bucket, installed freshly painted front fender and left frame cover (they were both black)

And that brings this thread up to date. Just need to pop the seat on and I can ride the thing! Still could use new tires though... and I'm replacing the clutch cable because it's stiff ... and I have a couple of rubber grommets on order... these projects never really end until you sell them...

It'll never be as nice as yours unless I restore it, but I dig the "lived in" look of the bike which pushed me in the direction I took. All I need to do now is take some carefully posed pictures to sneak it into the collector insurance program! Sssh! Don't tell Steve G.

Lol...your secret is safe with me. It's going to be cool going out for a ride together, that's for sure.

I installed a new clutch cable today to replace the stiff old one (heh, stiff old one...) as well as all new rubber doingers to hold the frame side panels on. I'd be pretty gutted to lose my freshly painted one (or the original one, for that matter) somewhere out on the road! That only left the seat to pop on and now it's ready to ride! Wheeled it off of my workbench, that felt really good, and now it waits for plates and insurance. Of course I now have an empty workbench again... whatever shall I do?

Hoping to have some pics of the bike out in the sun in the next few days (need them for insurance, as mentioned above) and then I can put some miles on her and see if I actually like a stock GS1100... I guess if I don't, I'll have my next project... hold my beer and hand me my Sawzall!

Wow that cleaned up nice. The blue front fender looks much better then the chrome one that you got it with.

Finally got around to buying new tires for the GS, BT45's are one of my all-time favourite tires for these bikes. My '82 Katana could carve on these tires!

Installing them on Saturday so I got her ready for the transplant...

Did you get a good deal on the BTs?
Petes in Montreal has been raising his prices lately.
I like them as well and will be needing a set in the spring.

                              ..."she can fly"....isn't a Hayabusa a Falcon?
