In 2013 I hit a deer on my 1050 Tiger that put me in a wheel chair for 2 mo and out of work for 5 mo. I was taking pictures of all my old race stuff and was going to sell because I had plenty of time on my hands. Found this web site and couldnt go through with it. I always am sorry when I sell stuff, so let the re-addiction begin. I'm off the wagon. Heres my first build. With forum members help I have re-created my old race bike, with a bunch of new mods. This the first bike of my dream to have a bunch of 80's super-DSCN3078.jpgbikes in my garage. Yes Trippivot, I am a dreamer and these dreams WILL come true...

Recreating my ex race bike
Been lurking on here for a while. You guys got me re-addicted to GS's. Thanks? Road raced GS's in the late 70's-early 80's. I started on a 77 GS750 with a whole Yoshimura top end. To fast and no brakes. Not a good combo for a first timer. Then it was on to a 79 GS1000s. Ran that for 1 year with carbs and pipes but I needed more,so I put GS1100 swingarm, motor w/carbs and pipes and front end on it. Ran 3 years total until we put a rod through the crankcase during the 3rd hour of its 3rd 5 hour endurance race. Also ran a bone stock GS750E until I Moved to a Honda VF500F. Eventually retiring when I got married and had 2 children. I put the GS in the corner of 4 different homes/garages/sheds.

Not good with posting pictures so this could get interesting. Attempted to put another 1100 motor I had into the frame. After using a come along to attempt to line up the motor,I realized there is no way it should be that tight. Frame is bent. S@#T. I had purchased this GS from a friend a few years back. It was my brothers ex-bike who is now deceased so we have a little history going on here. Mechanically sound but sorry guys, butt ugly. huum...Attached FilesCurrent Rides: 82 GS1100E, 00 Triumph 955 Speed Triple:twistedevil:, 03 Kawasaki ZRX1200, 01 Honda GL1800, '15 Kawasaki 1000 Versys

Its winter,i'm bored and really tired of looking at sweet bikes, watching Netflix, and lurking on the GS forum. Maybe instead of putting all this 1100 stuff on the 1000, I will put the 1000 stuff on the 1100. They are the same frame. Yea right. Remove this, cut off that and add a little here. Ya same frame... If you ever really get to know me we have the fine art of sarcasm down to a science at work and some times I forgot to turn it off when I punch out. The goal was to use modern hardware where possible and to lighten her up. FZ-1 rear brake caliper, GS550E rotor. Removed caliper mount and bracket. My old rear sets were homemade, crud and wore out. Tried some ZRX mounts and a set from a R6. To much improvising. Ended up using Hyabusa rear sets. It was amazing how close they were. My machine at work was having a maintenance day and I picked up a plate of 1/4 plate aluminum for free.Made a bracket. A little grinding here and there and a shift rod from a Triumph parts bike.Attached FilesCurrent Rides: 82 GS1100E, 00 Triumph 955 Speed Triple:twistedevil:, 03 Kawasaki ZRX1200, 01 Honda GL1800, '15 Kawasaki 1000 Versys

Sounds like a great project!
Will you build this bike to qualify for vintage racing, or just for track days?1982 GS1100G- road bike

I am not sure what the rules are. There is a great Vintage race at Road America in June. A friend that raced with me way back has gotten back into it and is really fast. If it makes it to vintage, he can ride it and I will have to go into the bottom end. Occasional track day. It will be street legal (barely) Head, tail lights and a mirror.Current Rides: 82 GS1100E, 00 Triumph 955 Speed Triple:twistedevil:, 03 Kawasaki ZRX1200, 01 Honda GL1800, '15 Kawasaki 1000 Versys

Yes. I have 2 sets of wheels laced up with HD stainless spokes and wider rims. One has a 18" front . They seem to turn in a little better. Track riding on wire wheels, this I don't get. They gotta be wobbly under corner stress.
Back in the day, everybody wanted to dump those and get solid wheels.1982 GS1100G- road bike

The HD spokes are almost twice the diameter of the stockers. All old bikes wobble when pushed that hard. You can make it much better, but tough to get rid of. I rode mostly at Brainerd International Raceway. It had a 5th gear wide open corner. 135mph on the GS. Yes it wobbled, but to me, it was part of racing and the character of the bike. On shorter, less high corner speed tracks, really not a problem. Back then there were no economical alternatives to get a wider rim.
