1981 GS1100e restoration
Got this last week with another bike and a bunch of parts. Looking at it, it deserves to be brought back to glory. It won't be 100% stock, but tastefully done with original stock exhaust and airbox. Odo shows 30k, probably accurate. Also came with 140MPH cluster with 199 miles, I won't try to pull that over on anyone. But I will probably swap the bezel and sell the speedo. 2 sets of nice stock exhaust that should clean up nicely, a new OEM set of handlebar switches L and R, a late 82 motor from Chef1366 is installed, and I have another motor from the appropriate serial number range. PO is a GSR member and has owned this for 9 years, I will try to complete his dream. I would like to get it mechanically debugged in time for John Day, cosmetically over the winter. More pics to follow.....

PO says it is a Compufire RR. There is NO room on an 1100e for a SH775 without surgery, it may stay if it passes the stator tests

Actually, I haven't ridden it yet. It starts and runs OK, but the forks are really floppy. I measured 46mm of sag, and they won't hold air so that is the first job. PO said the carbs were iffy at idle, and I want to check the clutch nut and redo the wiring before I hit the road. Everything else is cosmetic, plan is to totally tear it down, powder coat the frame, and paint and detailing. It will never be as nice as Trevor's, but it could be 80% easily....sigpic

Update 5/14. Had to finish up some other stuff before I got back to this. I took it out for a ride after I put some air in the front forks, man is it fast. Until the wire to the battery separated from the coil relay. Why is there a wire from the battery to the coil relay anyway? Ordered a truckload of parts, new tires, front tube, SH-775, connectors, replaced the clutch basket and clutch springs, now the wiring. Thanks to whoever suggested the SH775 would mount where the ignitor once was. Just need to hog out the holes on the RR a bit. Plenty of room for the airbox and the connectors.
