    1980 suzuki gs1000st restoration..........the starting of

    hi all,

im just in the process of beginning the restoration of my 1000 st....

a couple of questions in hand:

    1. mirrors for this bike are virtually impossible to find, but i do remember someone did mention, there is a
company out there, who make similar plastic to those of the original ones....complete with the 50mm hole spacing.
if anyone has had success please let me know

    also

    2. in the process of recovering my seat.
it is the later stepped seat which i found on ebay two versions for this seat with the only difference being the pattern.

one version has the conventional one way pattern....

whilst the other has a zig zag or diagonal pattern.

can anyone assist with what would be the original option please??

    many thanks

The US market got the zig zag pattern. Not sure about Australia though.

    No clue on the mirrors.

Go to the Dennis Kirk website, and find the Ken Sean mirrors. There is a universal, fairing-mount mirror, that bolts in place on the fairing w/angle blocks included. Big mirrior face, and they stick out way further than the stock ones. Rear visibility is excellent, and they are about $20.00. I've had 'em on my S for about 15 years, and they look real nice IMO.

The US models were equipped with a diamond stitched pattern seat. Pit Replica has it for about $80.00 US.

                Hi Met,
I've just purchased the conventional cover for my St and its a good copy of the Aussie seat.
                Also have a look at
                gs1000st, gs1000, gs1000s, suzuki gs1000, suzuki gs1000s, suzuki gs1000st, gs1000s 1980, gs1000 st, 1980 gs1000s, 1980 gs1000

Also Sharpy has a lot of good info on the St and has helped me a lot with photos etc.

Can you put up a few photos of the bike now?
Enjoy the rebuild .I'm over in Perth and have also just started doing my St rebuild.

                Cheers

                      Hi Met,
It was the same one in your ebay link, Not bad quality for a copy.
Look after your tank as they seem to rust out easily. I've got an early fluted one on mine until I can find an S tank.
Is it going to be a Blue or red one when finished?
                      cheers

                              met,

I finished a Blue/White 1000S last year, and I was also looking around here for the paint codes. The OEM Suzuki manual listed the white as "Egret White" - Suzuki colour code 189".
When I gave that info to a top M/C spraypainter in Perth, he looked at me blank and said it was of no use to him.
I did get replies on the forum, including photos of paint can labels that showed the actual tint colours and quantities. Search for "GS1000S paint codes" for long enough and you'll find it. I also got a reply about Ford "Wimbledon White". It's a bit creamy in colour , but the spraypainter was able to get the code for it no probs and tweak it to be slightly brighter shade of white.

                              Hope this helps.
