here is the bike when i first saw it. the motor was locked up and i could tell everything was going to need to be worked over is some fashion.
getting the bike home. It had a cool vintage Kerker exhaust that I really wanted to reuse. It had rust holes that I eventually would have to patch up with a welder.
tear down. Source of the locked motor was water that had stuck the pistons. Nothing some tlc with a hammer couldn't fix.
Top end rebuilt and motor reassembled and painted.
carbs rebuilt
All of my time was spent rebuilding all of the components and trying to do everything right the first time. I replaced the stock rear brake master cylinder with a MC from a 1979 GS750. I converted the sprockets and chain from a 630 set up to a 530 set up, also giving it a slightly snappier gear ratio for quicker acceleration. The most difficult problems I ran into were fixing a rather large rust hole in the tank and rust holes in the headers. I also got a good deal on a 2013 Honda cb1100 seat that i thought would look nice and clean but also not out of place. It took some ingenuity took figure out how I was going to mount it. End of the day it mounts up nice and simply and secure.
I wish I had taken more photos of the process. If anyone has any questions about how I did something please ask.
here is the "finished" bike. I really wanted to emphasize aesthetically the contrast between old and new. I wanted it to be as clean as possible while maintaining a sense of patina and use. I really like the contrast between the raw aluminum and black paint.
Let me know what you all think. Its been a fun and rewarding rebuild. The gs750 really is a beast of a bike.
