He didnt get "****y" with anyone. You called him an idiot. He has actually handled himself very well considering the embarrassing attitude of some of the posters here.

"Hardtails have no place onthe blah blah" yea, right. Ever heard of Iron Butt rallys? Yea, plenty of hardtails out there that ride across the entire country every year.

It is just as much the right of the o.p. to ride what he wants as it is your right to ride what you want. You are being very childish.
I'm beginning to see why you were advised by a few members to chill out. You may have some great skills as a mechanic, but you seem to have a persecution complex. If the general tenor of the GSR is against hardtails and open pipes, your posturing isn't going to change it.

As a side note, Dohc, you are now advocating that some of us stop doing what you first got your panties in a bunch about when you decided to go to war against the common advice to adjust valves as a baseline. This forum has helped more members with their GS questions than you ever will, so either deal with the kultsprechen or go someplace where your need to tell people that your opinion is the only one that matters is acceptable-and that may well only be the confines of your own shop.

Wow. More mud slinging, instructions for members to leave, topped with some obvious projection.

You're right, this probably just isn't a good place for people like me. So as instructed by GS1150Pilot, I'll be signing off now. Mods, feel free to remove my profile from your gated community.

Good grief people, give it a rest already!! The man wants to cut up a 450L, not a 1000S signed by Wes Cooley. He seems aware of the downsides, and I really am having trouble fathoming the hostility that's erupted. He's not asking you to ride it...

                    Hard Tail

It's somewhat entertaining... Hopefully, it doesn't get too out of hand. (Educational in a sense of seeing true colors of the many personalities on here)

I had a pic of a soft tail with a beautiful woman on it. It surely would have helped redirect the daggers (ribbing) going on.

EDIT: Here it is...a cleaned up version:

Best to just ignore the negative posts and focus on only those that are helpful. It's your bike, do with it as you will. There is no shortage of 450Ls and if the one you have is as ruff as you say then if you don't do something with it as you see fit, it will just wind up in a scrap yard anyway.

I don't know if you've seen Wrench Against The Machine on Esquire, but there is one episode where the bikes being used in the build competition were GS550L. The style was choppers and one of them actually turned their bike into a hard tail old scool style chopper. What is worthy of note, is they cut the rear seat supports, flipped them and used them to turn the swing arm into a hard tail. All your geometry stays the same, so you wont have to worry so much about if the rear is straight. The part where they are doing this starts about at the 1:30 mark.

The 450S we had for awhile was a hoot to ride and is a pretty peppy little bike, so it should be a fun ride when your done. I worked on a locals 750 bobber a few months ago and it was a harsh ride, but no different than the '69 Triumph chopper I used to have. Still fun to ride, but my back can't handle it for long. If you're still young, then I say go for it let the sparks fly.

                            Rick/Pilot,

I like the way you both use British terms (muck it up) (bum). No reason to use the other word that hampshirehog references when he pulls the BS flag...Lol.

And that's a soft tail, Pilot.

                            Merry Christmas fellas.

Well to tell the truth it was a way not to us the F word. I don't like it when people just throw the F Bomb around all the time. It tends to loose the severity of it's meaning when it needs to be used. Not that it ever really needs to be used, but I think you'll get my meaning. I love a good give and take, but this kind of behavior doesn't need to be in the part of the forum where people go to get help. Like momma always said, "I you ain't got nuttin nice to say then shut the muk up!"

My mother doesn't really talk like that.
