    Assembly lube

Ready to put my motor back together. What do you like for assembly lube?

Manual just says coat everything with fresh oil. Wipe the bores with a rag dampened with oil. Dump some on the cam journals and the cam lobes. Pour a little along the crank and tranny gears before you set the lower cases.

What Chuck said plus I like to leave the plugs out and spin it with the starter a couple of times for 10 - 15 seconds and listen for anything funny and make sure the oil pressure light goes out.

You should use a wrench for the first two or three rotations of the crank to b certain cam timing is on and you dont smack a valve. If you feel any resistance with the wrench when a piston comes to TDC dont force it...find out why the piston is hitting the valves. Wont bend vlaves with the wrench where as the starter motor doesnt give a crap.

a realy old pro mechanic once told me using assembly lube on run in parts was a silly waste of money.
          He said fresh motor oil.

Absolutely Chuck. I kind of assumed that would have been already done and you know happens when you assume. LOL
