Nice to know we can swap fuel petcocks. Looking sweet, yes its moving along quickly. Should be able to get in some riding before winter. I'm gearing up for another winter build. Chuck, it never gets old receiving new parts does it.
Awesome that those emblems are still available as it really makes the bike look spectacular.

Sam..thanks. Doing a few gets your game plan ironed out. I kinda just start with the frame and make it a roller again after cleaning up the rims. Then i do the engine and exhaust and get them back on. After that its clean, repair..or order a replacement part..and just add to the roller. I do suggest getting the tins painted rather early so they have time to gas out and harden a good while before its time to throw them onto the frame.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Hooked up the fuel sending unit and the fuel line. As you can see it just bend in front of the #1 carb with the 750 petcocks and no kinks. Ive never had one wear through as there isnt any wiggling going on between the tank and frame. Also got the seat trim on the pan. Bottom edges are surprisingly very closely aligned!! Will take better pics when i roll it into the drive and some good daylight.

OH NO NO...the flames were to burn that Kreem out of there. Acetone only made it a snot mess like thick Elmers glue. I was out of patience and had another tank just in case...so let the BBQ begin!!!!MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I probably would have used a propane torch and never told anyone if I had thought of that.

Lets call tonight escapades "How to make a 98 dollar 750 petcock look like a 300 dollar 1000 petcock". Note in the first two pics that both bodies have a notch for the rear facing elbow to lock into..but the 750 just has a straight nipple coming off it.
So we remove both nipples from the petcocks...
So now is here the fun begins. The original 1000 brass tube was smaller than the new 750 nipple. So there had to be some drilling of the old 1000 petcocks elbow to accept the straight nipple from the new 750 petcock.....

The 1000 elbow drilled out to accept the straight nipple off the new 750 petcock..
Had to cut about 3/16 inch off the 750 straight nipple and champfer the end. Little JB Welds to ensure no leaks and tap it into the 750 petcock facing to the inside of the tank....toward the fuel tee on the carbs that is.
Rear facing elbow tapped into place....With the tab aligned with the notch.
And last was to swap back covers and I made the suction nipple face down for ease of getting the vacuum line on...
