GS1100E Second phase mods (moved from wrong forum)

OK, to start let me say I have been off this forum for quite some time. I'm going to post some pictures of the bike updates that I've recently made. For a little background the modifications that have been on it for quite some time now are:

GSXR1100W forks
GSXR750 swingarm
Modified tank with GSXR cap
Custom mounts for GSXR rear sets
GSXR exhaust - port adapter mods required
Added oil cooler. Note that a GS1150 oil filter cover was used. This is a must if you add a cooler to the 1100 for it to work properly.

Was I satisfied? Well actually not quite as it didn't have the overall look I wanted. So, more money, time, and effort was thrown at it. The new mods are:

Forks were polished and black anodized
New headlight brackets and LED headlight (JW Speaker)
New LED turn signals front and rear
Custom gauge bracket to mount the new single speedo/tach and choke
New bar mounts with superbike bend bars
GSXR controls (rewired the bike to accommodate)
Old blinker box removed and new setup using one compatible with LED's (If anyone needs let me know)
Pingle fuel valve with on/off/reserve (no vacuum crap)
New battery mount
Airbrushed tank with a logo I've been wanting to put on for quite some time

I'm in the process of finish sanding and polishing the tank, so any pics I post before then will not have the tank on the bike. Also, I only own a flip phone. This means I have to borrow a buddies phone for pics and the damn phone he has requires some contortions to download to my pc. Big pain.

Anyway, I am happy (for now) with the updates. Once it's together again new tires are necessary before I ride it anything beyond grandpa style. 20171130_131437.jpg

If memory serves me correctly it's from a GSXR1100, not the GSXR1000 as the port spacing on the GS1100 and GSXR1100 are the same. The header is adapted to the head by the components pictured here. These are from the GSXR1100. the ones I designed for the GS1100 are obviously installed on the bike and are of different dimensions.

Since I only know how to post 1 pic per post, here is a better one of the fitment. The pipe fits pretty well although I would have liked it to tuck in a bit more. Custom pipes are out of my price range, so this is as good as it will get for me.

The clearance isn't as bad as it looks when the bike is upright. I can measure if anyone is interested.

I think it's important to note that I created the 3D image of the port adaptors using a FREE CAD program from eMachineShop. As I said, the program is FREE (I'm not a representation of the company) and fairly easy to use - and there are tutorials. These adaptors were far too difficult to manufacture with my limited facilities, so I sent them off to the same company to be created. They did a great job and the adaptors work out quite well.

The speed/tach mount was also designed using this program, printed 1:1 on my cheapo printed, then cut from aluminum stock using a hack saw, filed down, and polished. This CAD program made a big difference in the amount of time it took to get it correct.

It's been so long ago that I worked on the ports that the drawing file for it is long gone. It's not that difficult to replicate what I did once you understand what needs to be done.

I believe the are GSXR1000 or 750. The adaptors I created out of aluminum stock also. I'll send a pic later as my friend went to work. My flip phone sucks for pics.

The hand controls as well as the electrics - kill switch. starter, horn, turn signals. etc. are also GSXR1000/750 variety. A bit discovery using an ohmmeter to determine the new pinouts, along with rewiring the bike was need, but it was worth it. I was able to get rid of the old blinker setup and also downsize the battery. The new controls have both a normally open and normally closed position on the starter button. This is cool because it allows you to kill the headlight when the starter is engaged, thus less draw on the battery and I was able to get away with one that is smaller and fits on by rear shock mount lower. It's right behind the K&N air filters.

I added rearsets to my gs1100 and now theres not much room for the passenger to put their feet. Your solution looks clean and if you know what year and model they came from I'd sure like to do the same. Thanks!
