Well first off i locked up the 82 750 motor drag racing.
I got a hell of a deal on a 2005 katana gsx750f that had been sitting for a while so I picked it up cleaned the carbs and the motor fired right up. wooohooo.
now Ive been doing measurement and not find much info for swaps using these particular parts so thought I might just as well start writing this up so maybe someone else can benefit from my experience with this.
1. katana swingarm.
the swing arm on my 2005 750 kat is right at 4" longer then stock.(great since Im drag racing.)
the pivot mount is wider then the stock GS but I was able to cut 11/32" off each side and measure excatly the same as stock gs.( mine cuts came out running just beside the welds on the pivot.)
the pivot blot was the next issue (larger then gs) and after some quick internet research I found that bot h the gs and the Kat use the same 22x29x22
needle bearing. so that being said I can reuse the stock bolt and sleeves after cutting the pivot.
now after removing the needle bearing to cut I found that the pivot tube was not drilled all the way through, and after some measuring with the calipers. cam up with about 24mm of space left after the cut. Solution 1(new needle bearing from suzuki atv 22x29x22) or solution 2 )Bronze bushings with 22x29x22 dimensions). I opted for the bronze bushings since I will be using struts on this bike. If a person had access to a good machinest the tube could be machined deeper to reuse the factor size bearings.
i should be attempting initial install. this weekend or end of next week. will try to post up some Pics then.
katana swing arm
as we all know the factory gs swingarm.
