Whats a decent paint job cost these days.

    20180304_113039.jpg

Whats the going rate for a paint job?
I have the decal set to be applied before the clear coat.

I am in Sydney Australia and getting some silly prices here

$1,000 is becoming a very good deal. Materials alone for a tank, side covers and tail section will come to $600 or more, (for quality products) so you can see how much the painter is making...not much. I lost my butt on so many paint jobs that the owners thought was high priced. PPG has just raised their prices another 10%. A lot of people are happy with a rattle can job and that's fine. If it's done by a pro with high dollar materials, expect to (rightfully) pay for it.

I remember paying about $500 in PPG material for my first paint job and thinking the pros must get it cheaper. Rattle can and plenty of clear is the best path for 75% of the people.

I get my paint at shop prices. Costs me way less than $600 for materials to do a body set, less than half that actually.

I know I would never pay anybody $1000 to paint my stuff, however, I know how much time it takes me to do a body set and with today's labour rates I am not surprised to hear $1000.

I recently asked for an estimate to paint the Bandit. It seemed fair at $500 in a single metallic color, and I will probably have it done next year. I agree with Jim here, though: I spent some time last week repainting and clearing the new fender and repairing and repainting the side panels in black with Spraymax 2K, and I am pretty impressed (enough so that I am going to repaint the tank, which was actually fair to start with).

Just finished my paint job and added up the costs.

                IMG_0131.jpg

                Sandpaper $ 35
                Primers $ 25
                Putty $ 6
                Rustoleum Black Paint $ 13
                Decal Set $ 98
                2K Clear $18

                Total = $ 195.00

And that is painting only a tank and tail section!

I would estimate that I spent about 10 hours total on this paint job. So, now I see why body shops charge what they do for a paint job! But, I can say I painted it myself!

When I die, just cremate me and put me in my GS tank. That way I can go through these carbs, one more time!https://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/core/images/smilies/cool.png

And you go PPG is a lot more than $18 spray cans.

I painted the tank, front fender, side covers and tail cone on my 83 1100E about 12 years ago. I used Dupont Imron color coat, primer, and clear and at the time I had a professional discount at the paint store. I had $900 in materials in it.
