1979 gs750EN i need help settin the timing
I bought a 1979 gs750EN i had the cylinder head rebuilt i am now trying to install cams and the timing chain. When i set the cams with the #1mark on the gasket face and the number 2 mark at the tdc point (on the exhaust cam) and the number 3 mark straight up (intake cam) with the 20 chain pins in between it is fine but when i put the idle pully on it pulls the exhaust cam back by about 1 tooth, is that lkay to leave like that or do i need to remove the cams and attempt to reset it? -

Sounds like you need to redo it. Set the crank at 1-4 T and pull up on the cam chain in front of the engine before slipping the chain over the exhaust cam. The 1-- mark must be pointing slightly down because when the cams are seated into the head the 1-- mark will come up. After install the 1-- mark will be slightly above the gasket surface due to chain elongation.Ed

20 pins is 20 pins. Yes, the intake cam will rotate slightly when you put the idler sprocket in, but DON'T CHANGE THE PIN COUNT. The rotation is already accounted for with the marks on the sprocket, so don't second-guess them.
