The colour of my blue gs1000 is a Suzuki car colour, Kashmir blue effect code zcw over a black base primer.

Progress has been a little slow lately. After finding the engine is fit and healthy after a few short runs in the back street and around the nearby industrial estate I started the full stripdown. The weather here is either frosty or very damp so not much work done outside. Today I pressure washed the frame and swingarm ready for prep and paint, after Christmas I think.

Small update, not been doing much with project lately. Cleaned and painted engine, blasted some frame brackets/engine plates etc. Got them primed with etch primer. Prepped and etched the frame, been waiting for weather to dry up. Fine dry day today so I painted the frame and brackets 2K black. Done the frame upside down, when dry I will do it right way up. That's a tip I picked up from one of Chuck Hahns posts.

Slow progress, but there is no hurry I want it right.

A bit more progress, it's starting to look like a GS1000 now. I have new wheel bearings to fit, brake calipers and other parts painted and ready to fit. I vowed I would never buy Avon tyres/tires again, but have bought a pair of roadrider MK2 to try. Also I sold on my 77 GS750 this week, only done 4000 miles in 7 years so thought it was time for another custodian.

Spokes ! Got to like them. The wheels have cleaned up quite good, no need for a respoke yet. When I bought this bike I didn't get a title, only a VJMC dating letter. So I was unsure which state it came from. The left fork leg has some decals on but I never took much notice of them. Seems like there Department of Defence gate pass stickers from Buckley airforce base in Colorado. That clears that up I think.

I think you'll like the Avon Road Rider tires. I've had em on a couple of bikes and they handle really well. I keep waiting to wear out the Continental Blitz tires on my S..as cool as they looked..they have never inspired confidence. They just feel loose and wiggly. Wish I had discovered the Avons before I bought the Continentals.

I had a time-expired Conti Blitz on the rear for a year or so. It was absolutely fine, until the last thousand miles, then it fairly quickly turned into a vile beast, wanting to pitch me off on white lines and following grooves like an LP needle. I was glad to see the back of it.
                      Still, it cost me nothing.

I got the front end in today, brakes all bled with new fluid. The front roadrider MK2 was a tight fit, took a bit persevering to get to sit on the rim 45psi did the trick. The seat is next to do.

                          Your bike is beautiful!

I love that it has a single front disk...but you have rear disc (and spoke wheels) while my "T" has rear drum (and mag wheels).

Thanks for posting pics...and such nice pics they are!

GSXR7ED, thanks for the comment. It wont be long now and the bike will be complete and will post a picture or 2. The American market got two versions of that model, cast wheels and twin disc front and the basic like mine.

I like your "basic" model. They made the front disc bigger that the dual set-up. I bought a complete front end of a 1982 GS1100E (MC, triples)...with a red fender.

It has not been cleaned up or installed but I took a look at the size difference.

Before I installed braided lines, the front brake was not as responsive prior to my Master Cylinder (MC) and caliper rebuild. I'll eventually get it swapped out but for now the single suits the bike fine.

Yes, please do post more pics. They have such good clarity!

How wide of a front tire did you put on?
3.25 or 90/90 is as big as you should go on a1.85 rim
