    Rons' 78 GS1000 rebuild

Finally got my frame back from the powder coater today. Looks better than I could have imagined. Now to get started putting it back together! Sorry cafe' guys, this ones going back as close to stock as possible!

And why yes, it is on the coffee table right now! He delivered it to my front door! Don't worry, it will be in the garage before dark!

Hope to have it completed by April 1st. Stay tuned!
    Ron

Is your work area warm enough or do you need to bring the rest of the parts IN and work off the coffee table?

No Steve, I have to suffer in an unheated, single car, detached garage! Unless the other one living here gives her approval! (Don't see that happening!)

Looks like some cold work nights wearing the flannel lined jeans and sweatshirts are in my future.

If you don't mind a bit of a commute, bring it on up. Shop is (almost) always comfortable temperature, plenty of light, tunes, TV.

There's a half-bath on the shop level and a futon couch/bed upstairs, just let me know when you are on the way.

Thanks for the offer Steve but I'll suffer through another rebuild in this sorry excuse for a garage! I actually have a lot of parts already finished and waiting to be bolted back on. My main issue right now is I have a zillion small parts to re-zinc. Luckily, I can do those inside on the weekends. (When she is working!) I actually started reworking some parts as I removed them back in December. Such as the rear wheel, brake and hardware.IMG_0313.jpg

            Progress!

Finally got to start putting parts back on the frame today! Got the swingarm, shocks, rear wheel, rear brake and the triple trees put back on today.

Now if I could only get this zinc plating solution to cooperate!

Anyone ever used these guys for a replacement VIN plate?

Mine didn't survive the powder coater and I was wondering if anyone has purchased one of these. If so, do they look close to factory stock even though it is a plate and not a sticker?

Or anyone have a better source for one?

              Thanks,
              Ron

Also got the center stand back on the frame.IMG_0344 (1).jpg

Seems like it takes forever to get anything done. Always waiting to zinc-plate some bolt, washer or nut to be able to attach a part! Oh well....it is cold outside!

At least now I can move it around the garage!
