Unknown wires underneath fuel tank! GS850 Suzuki

    Unknown wires underneath fuel tank! GS850 Suzuki

    I do not know what these wires are for when I took off the fuel tank. They run into the wiring harness and I dont know where it goes after that. Could someone please help me identifying them if they need to be attached anywhere? I would appreciate it!

    My 84 has extra wires for a battery that is no longer needed.

      Probably the fuel tank level sending unit.
      Are there similar wires attached to the underside of your tank?
      1978 GS 1000 (since new)

        Hi fil726 and Welcome to the forum

        Those colours are used on a redundant stator loop that was sent forward on the bike.
        Most people these days cut that loop out and send the stator output direct to the rectifier.
        Have a look here
        See how the Green/White wire from the generator goes out and doubles back as a Red/White

          Those don't look like the stator wires to me.

          Fil, the colors are a bit hard to see, exactly what are they?

          And what kind of brass terminal is on the end?

          And what year is the bike?

            It's an 81'
            The colors are green and yellow, the green being made up of two wires with round cup shaped connectors on the end.
            Bike runs runs as well.

                  Solid green and solid yellow, or are there stripes on either one?

                  Sorry about needing details, but Suzuki was pretty good about color-coding the wires.

                      There are two solid green wires on the bike. One is a lighter green and is for the right turn signal. The other is a darker green and would connect the two horns to the horn switch on the left side of the handlebar. The fact that you have two wires bundled leads me to suspect that. Does the green wire reach to the front of the frame? The horns might have been mounted horizontally under the coils or on the front, facing forward.

                      Yellow wires were a bit more plentiful:
                      - a solid yellow went from the stator to the R/R (rectifier/regulator), but would not have been long enough to go under the tank.
                      - a yellow/white (yellow with a white stripe) ran from a 4-pin connector (usually on the right side, under the tank) up to the headlight dimmer switch.
                      - a solid yellow wire ran from the dimmer switch to the high beam terminal on the headlight and the indicator in the instrument panel
                      - a yellow/green wire runs from the starter button, through the clutch "safety" switch, to the starter solenoid.

                        here is a better picture of the wires, they are too short to connect anywhere underneath the tank and get lost in the wiring harness after.

                          To me the picture looks like Orange with green stripe and solid green which are both used in the Horn wiring

                              Yep look like horns
                              On the 850GLZ schematic they show only one horn. Strange they would run two wire for positive and single for return. What goes in must come out.
