When I was taking the forks apart, I discovered that someone previously had left out the small aluminum cone on the end of
the damping rod. Luckily I had the set left over from the red bike so I took one apart and got it. Forks were in ugly shape. Rust on the
retaining clip, oil looked like tar, seals massively leaking. But the tubes are in good shape. So I will forge ahead.

UPDATE to my UPDATE about my UPDATE !!!
Got the rear brake back together and bled. Seems to work now. Yay.
Feeling brave I decided to try to start the bike. Most likely for the first time since 2008. Got the gas bottle hooked up, plugged
the vacuum line and... after some cranking...... IT'S ALIIIIIVE ! BWAHAHAHAHA !!!! Runs pretty decent. Very little smoke out the exhaust.
No clunks, clanks or thumps. I still have to adjust and sync the carbs. Today I'm going to address the wiring for the Polaris rectifier.
Charge wire keeps pulling out of the plug.

Yet ANOTHER update. ( kinda). Well, got the brakes all working, rear taillight replaced, rectifier wiring firmed up. Bike runs so next up
is carb sync. But I got side tracked. Picked up a 1994 DR650 so its on the lift right now. Oop ! And its colder than my dogs nose out
in the garage right now so things moving very slowly.
