I am in process of acquiring a 79 GS1000E in very nice,high mileage,rideable condition. I have a few questions.
DISCLAIMER: I am indeed doing my research both here, as well as deeper on the net on this subject, but thought I would bring my question to the forefront ahead of time just to see if any help were readily available.
Here is my thinking. I would like to try to replicate the original Yoshimura/Cooley superbike. NOT the "S" model that became known as the Cooley Replica" but more along the lines of the red tanked/white striped, actual race bike that Cooley originally rode in the Daytona 200(?).
I am NOT trying to duplicate in Concours fashion, more just trying to warm the bike back up and give her the feel of the vintage superbike.
I am currently looking at the GSXR fork swap as well as my options regarding a dual shock swing arm swap (GS1100???).
OK so that is where I am headed with this. My question is this, is there some links around here that would be able to point me to a good description of what Pops actually modified on the original Cooley bike? What he did to tune the bike? What the actual modifications/upgrades were?
Also...is there actually a Yoshimura exhaust that was made for the GS1000E that is a reasonable facsimile of the one on the race bike? Are we pretty much limited to the Kerkers-V&H-Bassani exhausts as aftermarket performance exhausts? I have been looking for somethign, but all I can find are Yosh slip on cans, no full exhausts.
OK..back to searching...thanks ahead of time guys...
