I'm +1 on the Alpinestars or any similar motorcycle specific type boot. Mine are comfortable and fairly light. They are easy to walk in and without laces, there is nothing to hang up on the shifter. Twice wearing lace up Sketchers I got caught in the laces and almost dropped the bike at stops.

Second to m'c boots, combat or work boots would work best giving good ankle and heel support but I'd recommend taping the laces down.

Whatever you wear, they should be able to fully cover the ankle.

+1 on ankle coverage. the one time i came off a bike it wore 1/8" of leather off the side of my boot, right where the ball of the ankle is. i can only imagine if it were flesh and bone.

          I wear these:

Not too bad of a boot really, I find them comfortable, also easier to shift with than the combat style boots I wore for a while, and MUCH better than my redwing work boots (steel toe).

I love my ICON Elsinore boots. Not cheap, but nice. Unfortunately not water proof and a bit warm...but they are damn cool.

I want a pair of those really bad. I just hope there are some left when I've got the extra money to spend on them.
