More than likely, the first time the tire hooks good it will twist the crank. Then you will be done.

not exactly the information i wanted to hear, but i am very glad that you informed me. just got a new shinko hook up so im assuming if i try launching this thing its just going to grenade correct? or highly likely anyway?

i may have the opportunity to purchase a 1985 gs1150 motor sometime in the near future. would this be a better bet as far as leaving the motor stock with a small bit of nitrous or a little bit of boost? or even just being able to launch the bike in general? or is it necessary to weld the crank and do clutch work with either motor?

as much as I love the the 1150s and yes it is a great platform to start with but since you already changed the motor I would strongly suggest you go with the GSXR/Bandit motor. Did I mention you can drop in 30/26mm valves in the stock seat. Here is the diddy on my build for my sons 98 Bandit.

i would be more worried about the small taper on the alt. rotor if your going to push button start it(unless you remove the magnet).
the HD basket mod is a must.
            also your bike is HEAVY!
the cheapest way to go faster in the beginning is to LOSE WEIGHT.
grab some GS400 forks and wire wheel with a ribbed tire or slick...single disk ect...
going fast and having a low budget does NOT go together.
i (myself) being 240lbs at the time ran 10.50's on a dead stock 81 GS1100 engine with no second gear.
this was in a small tire drag chassis with RS36 carbs.
i would launch on the 2 step set at around 9 grand and double button from 1st to 3rd...10.50's at maybe 118 mph max.

can you elaborate a little on this for me.(^ small taper, and removing magnet?) Its going to be lets say 75% street bike 25% track bike. for now any way, so im not worried about being that fastest person out, just looking to have fun. 9's would be nice and 10's i would assume is expected. you didnt have any problems with the crank launching that high?

not done yet, but i got a lot of parts powder coated, wheels, swing-arm, brakes, and a bunch of other small peices. new tires (180 shinko hook up in the rear) new chain and sprockets (530 i think). still have some more parts to polish up or have powder coated. Still on the look out for a local 1150 motor or a later 1100 so i don't have to worry about opening up the bottom end. I also have to address the clutch basket issue. not sure if i should send it out, or if theres is some one local here in new york that can handle moding my stock basket.

ok well i figured it was time for an update. finally got her out to the track a few times and had a blast. first run was 11.8 best was 11.2 @119. no issues with the stock motor with non welded crank as of yet (besides being slow), but its also still a stock motor/stock carbs. after almost 20 passes and about 500 street miles the clutch started slipping. i sent the clutch basket out to mtc for heavy duty springs, back plate etc. also ordered new ebc fibers and oem metal plates.

I also got a pretty good deal on a wet nitrous kit (nitrous express piranha kit). i will be building a nice little motor this winter. planning on being capable of running mid-low 9s motor, 8s on the juice. im hoping that i can do all this while still being able to ride on the street every now and again.?will reach out for info on this when the time comes. now, i am new to nitrous, i dont want to learn on a freshly built motor. i also want to go faster right now. i am planning on hooking up the kit to the stock motor this weekend. does anyone have any experience with nitrous and the 81 motor? i am going to start out small (40 shot) and if shes still going closer to the end of the season ill try and turn it up a bit. just trying to figure out if any one else has tested the limits on a stock motor (with heavy duty basket), any help will be appreciated.
