Gs1100 how to build a cheap drag bike
Hello everyone I have a 1981/82 gs1100 that I want to turn into a track bike for drag racing I don't know much about drag racing parts for these bikes but I'm thinking of adding a bigger sprocket 48t and a undercut tranny and tie down straps and a bore kit and new carbs I'm just trying to get a idea of the best way to go for maybe 100/2000 bucks I'm from upstate nyTags: None

Heavy duty clutch hub. Air shifter, slick and wheelie bars. Then welded crankshaft, undercut transmission, pistons, carburetors, camshafts, head work... That's how we use to do it. Today it may be cheaper to buy a used Hayabusa... However you might find a deal on a old school drag bike for sale. Good luck on your addiction. ☺Last edited by storm 64; 03-22-2017, 08:15 PM.My Motorcycles:

I am in the midst of building a mild dragbike. Front end strap is a good first purchase, $35. 15-45 or 15-47 gearing is a good choice. Clutch basket with bigger springs and thicker backplate, $300. Get a bigger wheel and tire on the rear. GS1150s had a 3.5" you could put a 150 on, or use a Bandit swingarm and 5.5" wheel and a 190 will fit. Next purchase IMO is an Airshifter, $200. I can't get my feet on the pegs before time to shift to second. After that, and only after you get consistent, add some power. Ray or Trippivot can help you get started better than I. Most tracks require a leather jacket, Snell helmet, gloves and boots. 10.99 or quicker adds leather pants and a kill switch. 9.99 or quicker adds a NHRA competition license, which I can't get because I currently take a blood thinner. Before you spend a lot of money on a GS though, remember you can get a clapped out 'Busa that will run 9.5\140 for $3500....sigpic

Thanks this doesn't sound to expensive and when I purchased the bike he told me he added a stage 3 clutch but I don't know for sure and as far as gearing I have no clue on what to do with the different sizes and what's best
