What is the quickest e.t. old GS, street ridden and legal you know of?

    this is on a modified 495lbs stock wheel base chassis lowered with air shifter with hand clutch. 60’ footers in the high 1.50’s to low 1.60’s
    I rode this bike everywhere. All over Daytona Beach with the wifey on the back. Back and forth to work. A very dependable motor.
    I think this is what I had in mind, stock wheelbase, stock frame, street tire, lowered suspension a little but not so much it can't be ridden on the street, pump gas, hand clutch but air shift, no wheelie bar..... but I think I would want to trade the funny gas for an extra 200cc big bore? I have been collecting some parts for the last few years to build something like this, or like the the one in NZ, something I can reliably ride to and from the track. But how the heck do you launch it without slipping the clutch something fierce, prevent massive wheelies and smoking the tire? What was your clutch setup and gearing on this bike? And what was the rider's weight?

      Back in the eighty's I saw the quickest factory stock '85 GS1150 I ever saw make a pass @ 11.11 @ 123mph . All totally factory stock right thru the mufflers and air box. Big guy though tall and about 240lbs. Most stock 1100's went i nto the mid elevens @119/120 mph range. Street riders no racers.
      1980 Suzuki GS550E, 1981 Suzuki GS 1100EX all stock, 1983 Suzuki GS 1100EX modified, 1985 GS1150E, 1998 Honda Valkyrie Tourer, 1971 Kawasaki Mach lll 500 H1, 1973 Kawasaki Mach lV 750 H2.

        great challenge .. I'd start with low comp 1428 pistons. and a lager intake valve head. lighted small end crank ....

          When I talked with Dick at Speed Equipment about the head he did up, said it went 9.4 at 144 mph, at 1327cc or so, just the way it is now, bought from the original owner of the head. Has 26mm Exhaust and 28.5mm Intake.cyl head gs1100e.jpg

              I have seen that list before, most of I agree with, a few are kinda far fetched I think. For my target goal or project, it will be highly modified, very user street friendly. Pretty much set on an aftermarket block at 1428cc, pump gas pistons, small aftermarket cams maybe 2 sizes over a stock GS1150, street pipe and silencer, hand clutch, air shifter, push button heavy duty starter, 40mm Mikuni RS flat slide carbs, etc.

              Funny thing about that list is I have owned or currently own a lot of those old bikes.....
              1984 Kawasaki GPZ 900 Ninja bought new in 1984
              1985 Kawasaki GPZ 900 Ninja
              1986 Kawasaki GPZ 900 Ninja, went 10.95 with me on it in 1987, was much faster than the other two, stock vs stock
              1989 Kawasaki ZX10
              1991 Kawasaki ZX11, pretty darn fast, as long as it didn't pop out of gear or hit a false neutral
              1985 GS1150 blue/white , stock but was very fast for the day
              1981 GS1100e black, pipe and jet kit, stock air box, went real good
              1982 GS1100e red, pipe, 33mm Mikuni carbs, K&N pods, 109 HP to the wheel, plenty fast, currently own this one
              1983 GS1100e red, pipe, stock CV carbs with jet kit, pods 101 HP to the wheel, plenty fast also, currently own this one
              1983 GS1100e black, pipe, 36mm Mikuni RS flat slide carbs, pods, ignition, others stuff, 109 HP to the wheel, current bike
              1984 GS1150 red/black stock, not running, project, currently own it

                  its shocking to see the older bikes having such high numbers. One imagines the suspensions have improved immensely. I know I am scared to switch off my traction control.
                  It would be interesting of bikes could be reviewed and have some sort of graph to represent a performance envelope like Jane's has or had for aircraft. Just as an example the Supermarine Spitfire vs the Messerschmitt bf109 race throughout the war in performance improvements.

                    I agree. I never had a V65 Honda stay with me on the launch, and I ran quite a number of them on my EZ1100. Once we got going, they pulled about the same. I can't believe all those guys were that lame to get going, and I'm damn sure no PeeWee Gleason. I also saw much better times on the GS1150.

                      That thing looks pretty nasty..... in a good way. Those forks very interesting.... leading axle conventional but look to be about 50mm? Are they some sort of Ohlins? I like the paint scheme.... decidedly not politically correct so all the PC types can get their panties in a twist.....

                        Ok, did little digging around the net..... there s a nice write up on that bike in SSB or SuperStreet Bike magazine. My guess on the forks were close, they are 51mm not 50mm, and Piaoli not Ohlins, off of a Bimoto. The lowers are carbon fiber, very cool. And the owner has the exact same mindset as I do on the paint scheme, free speech trumps what others might think. Very cool bike all in all, but the article doesn't mention any E.T. or MPH for the 1/4 mile.... but if I had to guess, with the extended swing arm, maybe high 8.9's, low 9.1's? Link to article:

                          This is the quickest GS that I know of 6.65@208 mph
                          but even more impressive in the 1/8 mile

                              I like that “1327 or so”😋. Years ago as a Pro bracket/Super gas 71Hemi 4 speed duster ex prostocker from the Northwest racer,9.50s at 145, I was running a guy that I saw in the staging lanes regularly in a 63 Plymouth 2 dr post running the same ET and mph as mine ,this with a single 4 bbl 383! I asked him what size motor, he said 383 or so. Found out later it actually was 535 C.I. stroker in a 383 block with max wedge heads.
