[QUOTE=trevor;2664330]Youi being from Ontario may have heard of a friend of mine Kevin Blackmore....raced at Grand Bend...he died at his own hand some years ago (depression)...there is a Blackmore memorial weekend now at Grand Bend Motorplex

He used to say "trevor, anyone can go fast with wheelie bars, it takes talent to go fast without".
And trust me, he was fast. Sorry...but a 550 under no circumstances needs a wheelie bar.

with bracket racing a wheelie bar would help me a lot to keep being consistent. just because some of us cant always do the same launch everytime doesnt mean there are other ways to help. i have broken my left wrist a few times so slipping the clutch isnt easy for me expecially when at the strip trying to launch at 9500 rpms lol and why not start out with a wheelie bar on a smaller bilke and stay consistent and than worry about slowly going faster and faster?? thats how i have always gotten better start slow and progress when ready. rather than go balls out on a 9 second bike and not be able to handel it safely and consistant. and seriousy, how many people bracket race a gs550??? its cool too.

It would help his consistency, and consistency is the whole game.
So a wheelie bar gives you consistency? What does the rider do?

its a tool to help with consistency. its not that hare of a concept to see is it? there is some of us that axctually see the worth in tools to help get the job done. if you wanna keep bashing wheelie bars or me personally racing a 550 than stay off this post to let the people who want to help help. dont need your negative thoughts for no reason. just a guy here starting to get into drag racing so positive help is welcome. have a good day

ok well good for you. i did my 1st event with no wheelie bar and i strugled with wheelies coming up too high. dont know if i mentioned that. thats another reason i wanted to go to a wheelie bar. also again, its my daily street bike, not set up much at all for the track,

              No.....
You are just not bracket racing, which is much more difficult than just going fast.

Racing Slick Tire, The Wheelie Bar, and a Air Shifter.
You Pre Stage, you bring your rpm's up to about 7,000 At this time you want to get comfortable, position your feet to where you want them.
Roll forward a few inches, then your staged.
Next, the amber lights start coming down to GREEN
You open the throttle wide open and let the clutch lever fly!
The rear tire grips the track. The front wheel comes off the ground till the Wheelie bars catch it
Your rpm's are coming up because you're in first gear. You stab at that Air shifter button to get it into second gear!
You tuck in and wait to hit third fourth and fifth gear.
In fifth gear you can look around a bit to see where your competitor is at. If you have them beat, you can back off the throttle to prevent braking out. If you don't have him beat, you stay tucked in and hope he runs quicker than his dial in time.
That's something how I remember doing it. 👍

i have thought about an air shifter but i gotta get over my fear of wheelies and be able to launch, altho if i deside to decatate this bike to just bracket racing its deffinnalty getting an air shifter. my 1-2 shift is good, my 2-3 shift is my problem. i knoestly think its a trans issue tho. from what a lot of other people who do bracket racing tell me after you get your times very close every time than start slowly maiking your bike faster and faster.

Trevor, bracket racing is all about consistency.
You have to know the time you will run, and a consistent launch is key.
And wheelie bars help your launch be consistent. A two step and slider clutch also help.

When I dragged raced years ago, when I was 18...I remember you had to submit a time that you thought you would run and then the lights were set accordingly to the guy you were racing. Is that bracket racing? I know I had to be very close to the time I had set.

basicly bracket racing is saying a time that you will be trapping at or close to without going faster. so say like me for example last event i was running about 14.7 and i was saying id run 14.65 so i never went faster than my said time and the 9 second sled leaves the line after a few seconds delay to make it so both our times crossing the fininsh line are as close possably, and who ever gets to the finish line 1st wins. its a lot of fun and very difficult to keep times constent if the launch is never the same. my trouble was/is launching. so wheelie bar would be a big help once i dial in the launch using it for help. i also just figured out my fzr600 rear swing arm will fit, slight modd of the frame axle bolt hole needs wideing, and ill be able to run a drag slick on the fzr600 rim. rather than the street tire im running. im running a dunloup d1404 and it does stick to the track but its still a street tire.

I bracket raced a low 9 sec 1100E for several years, both box and no box. It ain't easy.
