    Headlight shutoff for starting.

The relay set-up that was posted here a couple of weeks ago will work fine, but I've found an easier way. I have a 79 750L and it has the locked down on/off switch for the lights. If your bike has this you can modify the plastic switch cover to work as a normal switch. Just take it off and cut/file off the locking tab on the bottom of the cover, then screw it back on. It looks stock, but you can turn off the lights, start the bike, and turn them back on. This is especially helpful when the battery gets a little low from short low-speed trips around town. I can charge my battery a little by letting it idle with the lights off.

Seconded. Did this to my 79 550, too. Hella easy, just pop the swith-that-ain't-a-switch off and sand off the nub. Put it back and it's a switch now.

I've only had my 750L for a couple months and was wondering why there was a switch there that didn't move... I'll have to do this tomorrow. Thanks!
