Oil cooler add on for 1981 GS850s

Would anyone know if it possible to add an oil cooler to a 1981 GS850S? I live in Phoenix where you can fry an egg on the sidewalk in the summertime. Any help would be appreciated. Riley

I seen many malaysian made these modification for their 125cc engine, they do it so they can race frequently without to much heat I guess.

The short answer is yes. I had a Lockhart on my 850 for 20 years.

Oil Cooler

Yes it is possible, I have a 1982 GS850GL and the previous owner had installed a oil cooler. The bike was my uncles who lived in Florida and I inherited it and have been restoring it over the last year. The sticker is gone so I don't know who makes it, the dimensions are as follows,
8" Long X 3 inches high X 1 inch wide using 3/8" hoses. It is positioned on the frame behind the forks above the exhaust pipes and is secured with the bolts that held the factory horns. The hoses are held in place with hose clamps so they are not permanent fittings, they run down as the oil comes in from the bottom on one side and out the other, the hose run up over the top of the valve cover and down behind the carbs between the air box. The adapter has a built in pressure switch and replaces the factory switch. There is no bypass with this cooler but I don't see any need personally as the oil heats up quick enough anyway. I think it is a worthy investment and have seen the exact same one for sale on EBay, Just make sure you add oil to compensate for the oil in the hoses and the cooler. Also make sure the bed in the hoses dont kink, there isn't a lot of room with the exhaust and you dont want them touching the pipes so the bend is tight but not restricting, just be careful so you don't kink the hose's...
